Are the any good video card deals this Sunday?????

Sharing a 56K connection with the wife.

Cable modem is broke and comcast says they won't issue a new one until they get non @home/excite modems in next week or the week after.

Sigh

I love the 160gigger, it is only 5400rpms but I can live with it since it's only for storage. Definitely install the ATA133 card because none of the other controllers will even recognize the 160gigs. I got it @ microcenter for $260, $280 after taxes a month back. Fun.

actually, the 32mb radeon pci is $59 after $30 rebate
not hot, but cheaper than i've seen it anywhere else lately...

the jury seems to be out on whether or not the prices will rise (afaif)

Why is that APC UPS on page 9 "Great For Windows XP!"? Why do retailers prey on the stupid?

XP has built-in support for APC UPSs.

actually, some retailers clean out their stock of specific ups because of their compatibility with the newest os. i got a apc 350va (the big polygon-shaped un) that had "works with win 98se" placarded on the side a few months ago @ 0d for $44 because of same
then again, it was the first ups i encountered with a usb port... hmmm

doesn't winXP have some compatibility problems with UPS? Maybe this one doesn't as much as others.

EVERYONE should have a decent UPS for any computer they care about.
The key value of a decent UPS (and I emphasize DECENT here, because
the bottom-of-the-barrel "value" UPS units don't offer this feature),
outside of the obvious (won't lose work in progress if the power
goes out) is LINE CONDITIONING. Nothing kills your computer faster than
voltage spikes and brown outs. A good UPS will correct under/over-voltage
leading into your computer.

If you have valuable data on your computer you'd be a fool NOT to
buy a UPS to protect it IMHO.

Then again you could just get a decent surge protector with built-in line conditioning like me (no UPS) and buy a good PSU for your computer that protects against spikes and undervoltage to begin with.. UPS's are unnecessary 99.99% of the time and are worthless for the average computer user especially in my case it would just be taking up valuable space.. power goes out maybe once a year for about 2 hours and I live right on a main power line so no brown-outs and the like.. California on the other hand..

Any chance of geting Comp Usa to honor these deals today? I bought a Force feedback joystick yesterday from them for 49.00- 30mir. They have the forcefeedback 2 stick on sale for 69.00 starting sunday. 2 is supposed to be a much better stick and is also USB. There are compatability issues with the original and xp so I was gonna return it anyway. But i'd love to be able to go today and beat the crowds.

ups not unnecessary in my case. i save often, but as working in an area that every other day there's moisture in the air, one hears bzzzt and the concurrent beeping of ups amid the darkened room

Perry/Unclebud

Thanks for the heads up on the video card "deals"

That's not a bad price on the Radeon 32MB pci, $59 AR.

Cheapest I see it on pricewatch is $79 from MWAVE.

Might pick it up for my old i810 based system. Research says it should have good 2D, good DVD, and GeForce MX quality (almost) 3D.

Thanks again for saving me some time.

trikseter, i have it for my i810 system. it was a bitch getting w2k to recognize the radeon as the main video instead of the one built in. and no, there was nothing in bios to turn it off

plus i'm having a problem w/the openGL screen saver that comes w/w2k. the windows size would change from 1280x1024 to 640x480 about 15 min after the sreen saver would kick in. then i have to reboot. turned off the screen saver

i'm using the latest official drivers from ati. guess i'll try the new beta's.

oh..maxpayne only gave 10fps at 1024x768 in the final scene after he's killed the chopper. i have a 667mhz 256meg ram.

but the radeon pci is the best pci graphics card, afaik.

Thank you very much for the input!

Just helped me to decide to focus on the new system I am putting together and forget the PCI past.

The $60 for this card would be the difference between a GeForce2 and a GeForce3 Ti 200.

i have the imation black cdr's
and love them

only gripe i have is cosmetic.
i really wish they didn't plaster their logo on the discs.

i would like it just all black with "imation" in silver
(no big silver box, and "imation" in black)

trikster, no prob.

do u know if they will make a geforce3 in pci form? (i know they have a geforce2 mx pci). or is a geforce3 overkill on a p3-667mhz?
