Now, those Office Depot $20 off $20 was a prison rape from behind...
I didn't do that one out of guilt.

actually on most of the computers, compusa would be losing money.

i expect every computer to be out of there within the first couple days.

"they are still making a profit" Ummm NO, most puters are around 1-5% markup, just about 0-1% on the PS2

I might get excited over a 50% off sale at CompUSA, but I'm not so sure that 10% is worth even going to the store...

In my area, at least, CompUSA charges more than list price. For example, if a video card lists at $149.99 at the manufacturer's web site, then CompUSA will sell it for $150.00 + tax, or even $160 + tax.

The only time I go to CompUSA is when they advertise free stuff, and they usually screw me over in the rebates. Oh well. One day I'll learn my lesson and stop trying to get them to honor their rebates.

Bleh, even with 10% off, it's still cheaper to get stuff thru the web then thru CompUSA. There may be some software deals though. Hmm... wonder what I can get my Dreamcast....

Ask anyone which they would rather sell Software Or hardware.. and 99% of the time our answer will be software.. thats why Wal-mart can sell the same software that compusa sells for 10-12 dollars cheaper.. it has an EXTREME markup sometimes up to 50% so in regards to Compusa.. unless they have 10% off a 129.99 plexomega burner then the 7.9% tax i pay would probably keep me from going there hahaaha...
they won't lose a single dime even their computers are overpriced.
Still if i was in a diff state i might go take a look..

Definitely, someone mentioned CrapUSA charging more than list in their area? They do in mine as well... and people still buy from them! Argh... I want them to go out of business or get some decent competition. 10% ends up being nothing after tax to bump it back up a little more. $199 for a that Teac CDRW that people on this board stated was $159... to coin the phrase...
CompUSA is suck!:disgust:

btw, the store around me, doesnt mark stuff up(city of industry, ca)
strange thing is that all of the stores are supposed to have the same price. When u look it up in their computers, everyone should have the same price.

I called COMPUSA and they'll price guarantee things within 14 days. This is especially nice if you bought anything expensive in the last 2 weeks. I bought a couple of those 9150i CD-RW and Rio 500 packages and it looks like I'll be getting ~$20 back on each one. Not bad.

You guys think those imac and sony laptops, etc. are only marked up 5-10% at compusa?! try about 30%...I have a firend who manages an office max which sells some of the same computer crap as compusa. Desktops are even worse...

A small ma and pa shop might pay 120.00 whole sale per ELSA gf2 32MB card, but you think dell, compaq, or hp pay that? try about 75-85 bucks a piece.

And software mark-up at all retail stores is extreme...about 40-70% depending on the software.

Businesses that have less than 25% mark-up are few and far between.

10% is ok, but its nothing compared to how much higher most of the stuff they sell costs compared to online places. Now the 20% at OD with free delivery is pretty nice but they dont carry that much stuff
