Surprised you'd even go in there considering your sig. Sale or no sale, you've had that thread in your sig for a long time.

Liquidations start tomorrow in all closing stores as far as I know of. Today the liquidation team came in the stores and introduced themselves, got accustomed to the store, etc...
Initial discounts will be small, like 5-10% off and will gradually increase weekly from there. All sales are final and paid with cash or credit cards only - no checks. GiftCards will still be honored as well.

Yes I'm a current employee here soon to be laid off from one of the So-Cal stores. It's a very depressing atmosphere here.

Doesn't that violate company policy?

I kinda liked the CompUSA store. It had a selection of piece parts that the office stores and BB did not have. Also their Electronic Rebates worked very very well. No hassle and came every time in a few weeks.

Plus I must have picked up 6 ZyXEL routers for $10-$15 after rebates from CompUSA and no one else even handles them. Sigh.

will all closed product be shipped back? So the "liquidations" are only going to be on display models?

I worked at CompUSA for several years.. The business team was the biggest joke ever, you had overpaid floor reps that claimed that they were selling to corporate clients. I was one of the few that was actually on the road and closing real corporate business. Most of the reps patrolled the floor and rang up retail clients via the business desk. I know it will shock some of you, but you had reps making 150k per year basically selling to retail clients. The business team managers in the store were making anywhere from 90k to upwards of 200k..

The company was run by a bonus structure that eliminated all forms ethical selling and everyone and their mother colluded to maximize the grossly overpaying bonus structure. It was only a matter of time before the entire program collapsed, they were taking retail customers over to the business side, enticing them with discounts, and then overpaying the "business" reps.. Not only did that kill the retail side of the business, but those customers expected discounts, thus killing millions in gross margin.

At the end of the day greed and everyone turning a blind eye killed the company. They deserve to go down, I can tell you horror stories of how they marked up prices on notebooks to include service plans without ever telling the customer, or how they would ring you up at an inflated price for a product, then at the end of the night would re-ring the sale with the warranties, all to help all the greedy managers hit their service plan bonus.

Good riddance

Yeah, Holyoke is the only remaining MA store. That's a GREAT location for a CompUSA - out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by broke college kids. At least Nashua & Salem, NH are sticking around. They're closer to me and no tax!

Granted, I rarely get anything from these stores anyway, but they occasionally have a good clearance item or two. If you're in a pinch mid-build (short a pack of screws, need an extra fan, etc.) it's nice to have one around.

Yeah I agree on them being handy to have around if you come up an item or two short.

Here's what I most often buy at Compusa:

1. Case fans (a blue LED Antec 80mm fan is $9.99. Even with tax that's cheaper than Newegg's price shipped! Can't beat that when you need one ASAP!

2. Artic Silver compound

3. Power supplies for emergency use (they occasionally put the cheaper Antecs on sale)

4. Cases. They will sometimes have CoolerMaster or Antec cases on special and once you add up the MIR & instant rebates, it beats buying from an e-tailer and paying for shipping *AND* risking damage while in transit. I've bought at least 2 LanBoys and a Sonata from Compusa locally in the past.

1. Rockford (268 Miles) Small Business Center

268 miles to the nearest store? Nice!

sh1t. It was already 90 miles to the one in Sunset Hills from S. Illinois.

Damn, wiped out of STL altogether.

Not much better here in KC, MO.

Nothing is being shipped back. Stores arent shipping anything to other stores unless it's a "customer issue" and that store neeeds the product real bad. Receiving is also cut off, so no product transfers are taking place. Liquidations are on demo as well as factory sealed product....

Have (or had) a handful in my area. The only one in my state that's going to stay open will be about 90 miles away. I hope the stores are replaced by Frys and Microcenters. We don't have any Frys in my area but sure could use them.

i wonder how long they lost money. the times i have gone to their stores, it looked bad, stores looked old ...from the 90s. stuck back in time, and rather empty too. i only went a couple times if i needed something they had a rebate sale on otherwise their prices sucked. with frys around they just were getting pwned, compusa was basically like staples with slightly more tech products

Newegg needs to open up retail stores, that'd be sweet...

store overhead would kill their prices.

i wish there's a fry's near NYC

After seeing a kid at the PDA booth try to keep a beat with the sensor alarms, I'm not the least bit surprised the Rego Park location isn't listed any longer. I wonder what will go there though; pretty big place. The only thing this area could use is either a Fry's/Microcenter, or a homebrew shop. We'll probably get yet another furniture store that will sell the exact same compressed product everyone else on the strip already sells. Moda is closing down the blvd., but the furniture never stops. Maybe Walmart will take another run at the area. Target already has the area covered though.

THere will be none in MN and To be honest the last time I bought something there I had a gift card.

And that was over a year ago. I think I had entered the store literaly about 4 times in the last 3 years. They tried to screw me on a laptop extended warrenty I had purchased and I will stroll through after I run into office depot but Not one purchase (other than the gift card).

Well, I went back to one of the ones I went to yesterday. It was a ghost town in terms of people, employees and customers. All the product was still there, with very few new things on "sale". It seems like they will draw this liquidation out over several weeks...which makes sense. They will probably just sell things, but not get anymore backstock. Then some time down the road I would expect a week or so when a true "liquidation" occurs. Again, very uneventfull so far.
