CompUSA closing 128 out of 229 stores

It's 10-20% off right now. All I remember is 10% off digital cameras. Signs are going up at my store as I type this. It's very dead here though. Many customers are leaving when they see the "All sales are final" sign.

Unfortunately both that one and the other in Manhattan that isn't going away ALWAYS have the heat turned up to more than 130F.

Lots of the hardware there is probably heat damaged before it's even out of the box. Not to mention the fact that it's hard to shop while passing out from heat exhaustion.

I think it's partly because the location is bad and they have to compete with circuit city who has a better location and people know them better.

Well, Looks like I won't be going to compusa heh but i did just find out we are moving....

It's complicated - it's actually from a return that someone else bought for (on behalf of) me. It was the nicest thing ever, but then I realized I didn't need it and I tried to get actual money back, but to no avail.

Are you in CA? I remember seeing a memo today saying that people in CA with giftcards can cash them out by calling some 800 number. Give your local store a call and they'll give u the number.

They are closing all their store near me but luckily there is a Fry's, a MicroCenter, and Best Buy and Circuit City to fill in for them so no huge loss.

I was never crazy about CompUSA although I bought my first sweet Voodoo2 from them... with a rebate of course... did they ever sell anything without a rebate?

I went to the one of the local stores they're closing today and the sale prices were a joke. 10% off a 50% markup is far from a hot deal. It's no wonder they're going under.

I hope they close the Rockford, IL store so they stop charging tax in Illinois.

They were useful periodically, but I have not bought anything B&M there in years.

Good riddance... The other day I went in for the closing sale and heard a man arguing with an employee. The conversation went something like this.
Customer:"Do you have any MicroSD memory cards?"
Employee: (obviously confused) "sure... hold on"
Employee brings back 1GB memory DIMM
Customer: "No, I want a memory card for my cell phone, not for my computer!"
Commence arguement.

I lost all respect for that company when I asked to see their graphics cards and was recommended an FX 5500 .
"But the 256 MB of memory will mean that you are future-proofed for all the latest games!"
Pulls random game off shelf
"See, it requires only an 128 MB Video Card!"
"Yes, but it also requires DX9 SM 3"

Fry's has had my buisiness for quire some time now, and will continue to for the forseable future.

if I can get in on 20% off an Xbox 360 I would be happy, don't most stores regardless of if others are remaining open or not liquidate most of their own inventory before they're totally closed. Instead of shipping it to another location? My mall had a Warehouse music, we have about 3 more withing 10 miles, but I still eneded up getting a bunch of good cd's for 4 bucks each out the door

and to shadowofthesun, are you trying to tell us Fry's has better CS people then CompUSA? Not saying Comp is good, but Fry's has H O R R I B L E people! I've been recommended a CPU with 515meg cache, was told SATA drives are a good 30% faster then IDE, and my favorite that no CRT could touch even a cheap LCD when it came to image quality.

Funny thing about the Fry's I was told about the CPU, all their printed specs on the board showed the chips as having MB and GB of cache, The low end chips had 256megs cache, I wonder how a A64 with 1024 megs of cache performs!?! haha

Haha, of course not. I'm trying to say that people who go to CompUSA generally are the average Joe consumers that get their 1gb of RAM confused with their hard drive space, and the people who work at CompUSA do nothing to remedy the situation.

Well I haven't been to our local CompUSA in a while but I did pass it several times (the last time was a couple days ago), didnt notice anything out of the ordinary, but I didn't really pay attention. Since there is a Best Buy about ten feet away, we just go there instead. They seem to have more stuff.

I worked at CompUSA for 5 years. At the Plantation, FL store and we were never able to hold a candle to bestbuy right across the street. I did however learn to really hate the store and this is kind of a bitter sweet happiness for me
