Seagate should be ultra-quite compared to maxtor, WD.

Seagate states ALL retail product carry only 1 yr warranty.

those who bought seagate retail product, can u check if it's 1 or 3 yr waranty ?

If it's 3 yr, then it's a no-brainer decision.

I got an OEM from dell, checked online and it was a 3 year. Even RMAed once (not like it's a good thing) and they accepted it.

I just stopped by compu usa my local area, it says 1yr warranty from the retail box.
I am kind of hesitating purchae HD bet Seagate 120 from Compu USA and WD 120GB($129.99-30mir-20mir=$79.99, 3yrs warranty) from Office Max. Cause i have $10 off card coupon(for Business Customer) for any$20 prod purchae, that will bring down to $69.99.
Seagate HD is $10 cheaper after rebate but it has only 1yr warranty.
What u guys think? plz help me what HD should i get....

All Seagate Retail Kits come with a 1 yr warranty, even if it's the 8Mb cache "Plus" version, like this is. I found out the hard way when I bought the 160Gb one from Compusa a few weeks back. I think Compusa purposely doesn't advertise that the retail kit is a 1 yr warranty on purpose...

No, the RETAIL KITS all have 1 year warranty's, even if it's an 8mb cache "Plus" version, as I said before. The Mfg Part # for the retail kits ends with "-RK", for example the 160 Gb drive I bought is "ST3160023A-RK". The compusa web site does not add the RK to the Mfg Part # for their advertised Retail Kits, so they're not even advertising the correct product. If anyone has bought a Retail Kit and gotten a 3 year warranty, let me know. Look at this link. Best buy states that the Retail Kit is a 1 year warranty, and some stores actually include the -RK in the part #.

found the answer to my questions.... In colucions: Retail Kit Drive have 1 Yr warranty (-RK), OEM has 3 yr (no -RK)

gee, I didn't realize that WD JB now only have 1 year also. Seems ALL Retail drive now only has 1 yr.

I guess OEM drive is more profitable than retail drive (due to rebate) so manufacturer can give 3 yrs warranty.

btw, I find the answer on storagereview forums.

retail kit (ST3160023A-RK) and bare drive (ST3120023A) versions. The
drives warranty is designated by the inclusion or absence of the "RK"
designator for Retail Kits.

The Retail Kits are only sold through Best Buy and CompUSA at this time
and are covered by a one year warranty. The bare drive model is covered
by the three year warranty.
