Corporate America strikes again. Oh yeah, and we keep buying into it. Of the people, for the people, since when? Sorry, just popped into my little head.

I stopped into the CompUSA store near my work to scope out what was available and when I asked the dork with the weak mustache about the deal, he had no idea what I was talking about. He went in back to check and came back to say that the deal was ONLINE ONLY and only on a few items.

I told him that I doubted that I'd totally misread the parts about "in-store only" and "all desktops and laptops" and left.

I'm currently trying to screw together a sweet deal on an Dell Inspiron 6000. Screw CompUSA.

well people bought into the silly GM employee discount program (even though you could have gotten a better deal on a car the month before the program started), so compusa is just jumping on the bandwagon like everyone else. I strongly feel that a good percentage of everyday retail customers are morons.

Heh while most of the GM deals were middling, there were at least some notable exceptions.

And while people *could* have gotten the cars cheaper, you have to realize that a lot of consumers don't haggle very well, so the average price probably still went down quite a bit.

employees can purchase anything in store @ cost.

figure for cables, its a 100% markup - so if you're looking at a $10 USB, it'll probably be 4.50 - 5.00 - if even that high.

for example - i just picked up the 10.00 Jensen earphones for 2.75.

Very true. I'm in the metro-detroit area and I can tell you, the auto companies are really getting screwed. They make almost no money on employee discounts, and remember, this is on the manufacturer's side, so it's just about the lowest possible price they can give without losing money.

Not for printers? Too bad. Was looking to pop for the Canon iP8500 but they want $350 plus tax. I can get it online shipped for $303.

that's not entirely true. you can haggle the price of a car, you can't do the same for computer hardware. some people (like me) hate haggling and would pay a little bit more for a fair price right off the bat.

I love haggling. I would haggle at jewel if they would let me. The secret of haggling is just to be willing to walk away.

Doesn't cost at these places include overhead? That's the only way they can do this since their "cost" is all smoke and mirrors.

I used to work there...

Cables are by far the best deals.... they were marked up so high I felt super guilty selling those things. I remember selling 80 dollar sony cables that only cost us 3 bucks. Ethernet cables that cost 25 really only cost around 2-3 as well. Insane!

PCs/Laptops it just depends on the model. Some would have a low markup and then some would have a cost of half the retail price.

Canned air I dunno. The ones that sold for 7 bucks at the time I got for 3.80 or something.

Just depends that's all.

Just a coincidence... I checked today before I got off work, we only save like $2.00 on it.

My mom got a $50,000 car for $30,000 with that deal. I doubt she could have gotten it that cheap before the GM discount deal.
