Their policy about taking things back with no restocking fee is top notch!

Keep up the good work Comp-USA!

i think you got it wrong. No restocking only if item is not opened and returning within 14 days. Restocking fees if item is opened.

IMO, CompUSA has one of the worst return policies out of all BIG Retail stores like CC, BB, Staples, OM, OD, Frys etc.

CC, BB, Frys, OD, OM have the best return policy imo. Never a hassle even if item is opened. Frys, BB, CC will even open sealed items, so if you are going to return to these stores, its better to open them yourself

someone needs to turn on their sarcasm meter.

1. go to the store and tell them that your item is 'defective'

2. ask for a replacement. you can get exact item replacements w/o a restocking fee.

3. don't open it, and take it back a few days later for full refund w/o the restocking fee.

Good advice Skun, even if I don't buy anything there it is a good trick to know. Heck, trick them back!
Last time I was there I was so dissapointed on an advertised item which of course wasn't in stock, so just before I left I walked into the manager's office and said to them...This place sucks and you will never see me again.

This is why I stopped buying from them 4 years ago. There was a sale on a Linksys Home Network Kit (4 Port 10/100 Router, 2 PCI NIC's, 3 patch cables), going on at Office Max. The same day the Office Max deal broke here on Anandtech, Office Depot decided to match it and best it by a few dollars (selling the kit for $19 as opposed to the $25 at Office Max). I went to CompUSA because they pricematch both those stores and they were easier for me to get to. CompUSA was still selling the same kit for retail price of $99.98. I walked up to the front with both the flyer from Office Max AND Office Depot and proceeded to start the price match. The clerk was fine about it, but the manager came over when he saw the price difference and had the clerk call Office Depot which was their closest rival to verify. They verified the price at $19 for the kit, but the manager refused to believe that it was for the kit and not just a single network card. I then had them call Office Max and check there as well. He did and they also said they were selling it for $19 now because Office Depot was selling the same thing at that price now. The manager still refused to believe. I proceeded to get the manager's name and the store number. I walked out fuming, got in the car, drove the 5 more minutes to Office Depot, bought the kit. Went back to CompUSA handed the same manager the kit. Demanded to price match against it. Bought the price match and walked out. Wrote a nice LONG letter to corporate CompUSA and have never shopped there since. I spent on average $2-3k a year there before that incident. I havn't spent a penny since. I eventually got a response from corporate that the manager was fired, but I didn't care anymore as I was already thru with them. To make a customer go through all that to get a legitimate pricematch which is THEIR policy is complete BS, and I won't stand for it. There are plenty of other stores that are happy to have my business, even when its for something like a pricematch, because they still feel that keeping a customer is good for the long run even if in the short run they lose $5-10 with pricematching a rival...

Last time I had defective item, they wrote "exchange" on receipt. Can't image they will let you off hook so easy when "exchange" is written on receipt.

I like comp usa, the people that work there in northern nevada are morons. My friend's 2 year old PS2 broke so he threw it in the box with the original contents, took it to comp usa, told them it was bought there last week instead of 2 years ago and that he lost the recipt...gave him a brand new one as an exchange and we were playing MK: D on it that night...great deal, heh.

The BBB is a joke. I filed a bait & switch on a biz with them before and they never bothered to contact me back. As a biz owner, I make a point to not join that group. They call every 6 months to tell me that if I pay them $$$, I get all of these "benefits". If that was the case, how about actually contacting those that actually complain?
They are completely in it for the money - they are not there to help the consumer.

well I usually just let these things go ,but I did take a previous poster's advice and submited a complaint @ the BBB. I'm not the type to take advantage of mismarked ads and the such, but when something is clearly advertised, they should stand behind it. oh well I'll just keep shoping somewhere else. btw now they have an 80 dollar discount and not the video card i wanted, go figure .

Compusa has lost my buisness a long time. I went to the newly opened one in Tustin,CA to pick up a win PVR-250, and the salesclerks treated me like a crook. I'm tierd of dealing with them, i do not feel welcome at their store, their selection sucks, and they will be out of buisness soon since there is a bestbuy moving into the neighborhood.

I hate their return policy too, if it's defective, you can switch it 'free of charge' but then they write exchange. Some time ago, for a printer i bought, i exchanged once and both printers were bad, i brought in for a return, and they charged me the fee. Rather than eat the printer at full cost, i just took the 15% hit. That compusa eventually shutdown =

i just don't have much luck at compusa, as much as i dislike bestbuy, fry's, circuit city, i'd much rather be willing to spend my money there.

I haven't bought ANYTHING from COMPUSA in years thanks to their return policy - I spend thousands upon thousands of dollars a year with OTHER retailers who DO provide customer service (something that CompukeSA has no idea what the definition is.)
