You should only do this deal if you're going be heading to CompUSA anyways or if you have a lot of free time It is on clearance and a discontinued.

IMAT 25PK 24X AUDIO SPINDLE 290662

IMAT 50PK 32X SPINDLE 290393

They ring up as $.88 but the store manager might not let you leave with them. At least that was my case :|

This is the same thing on what happened to the $.88 book deal. It's not impossible but it is nationwide.

Edit: More skus/items that are on clearance.

286887 -20 pak imation 16x with jacket
290634 -100 pak 32x 80min
288452 -100 pak 24x 80min
290662 -25 pak 24x music cdrs
^Thanks to ceejaay over at FW for the updated SKU's above.

Edit2: My friend who works at a warehouse for CUSA says that they send those $.88 stuff back to the warehouse. The items that are labeled "field destroy" or something to that extent get destroyed. They get sledge hammers and literally destroy working products. Dunno if the cdrs are field destroy items though, the belkins are usually field destroy. They won't even let the employees keep them less sell them. BTW, yes he has actually SEEN the action of sledge hammers pounding down on some $.88 keyboards. Dunno about other items but I'm guessing they're usually destroyed too. He said that it's more expensive to ship back to the vendor and that is why they destroy them and not sure why they won't just sell it to us >_<

I can understand the books... they can be returned to the publisher if they've been updated and delisted. But CDs??? You can't exactly tear the cover off those. Bizarre.

the older packaging on the 25 pk audio 24x does not indicate the speed when i found the sku and took some up from there were some of the others mixed in so when she price checked the 40x or whatever they were they scanned 14.99. realized what had happened took the right one back up, ok well 8 pkgs. waa laa .88 x 8 + tax $7.48 out the door for 200 cdr's.

thanks op!

btw the upc you need to make sure they are is 051122411854

never did find any 50pks of the 32x's oh well.

may go pick up the other 8 pkgs tomorrow.

I picked up 4 packs of the 25 count and made my way to the check out. The guy at the register scanned one, stepped back and said,"whoa!". He then asked the manager if that was the correct price. The manager said that those were supposed to have been destroyed, but let me take the ones I had brought up for $0.88 each.

These were mixed in with the others, so look at the sku on the price sticker. I still can't believe these were marked 19.99.

Thanks DAWeinG!!

The CUSA in Santa Clara, CA, had almost 20 packs of the 25pk audio CDs at around 5pm. I grabbed 8, ready to argue if they didn't sell them to me, but they actually had a shelf insert showing the $.88 price, and they were in the system at $.88, so I walked out with all 8 without problems, leaving 11-12 left.

However, when the guy behind me in line saw what they rang up for, he headed back to get some, so they're probably gone by now.

Didn't see any 50pks marked to $.88. There were various other brands/sizes clearanced with $x.88 prices, but nothing priced that great.

I think the audio/music CD-Rs have license to copy a CD priced in, so they are more expensive. But if you make a copy of a CD with one of these, it's considered fully legal.

well, just to update i went back and looked for more. started looking at the 50 packs and noticed there were upcs mixed together. the packages all look alike except for the upc and the little speed sticker. anyway, came across one of the 32x packs, looked at the upc, my blood started pumping fast hehe. dug throught the rest of the shelves and found a total of 9 packs, so if you are not finding them DIG.

anyway the upc for the 50pack is 051122157080.

yesterday the cashier didn't say anything, and this morning the csr was the only one and had lines, but didn't wink an eye, and i ever had to go back in to get the 25packs and still didn't wink an eye.

if you all are having trouble t\with the managers i would recommend having them call the district manager and don't leave until they do. if it's on clearance it is on clearance and there should be no reason not to sell them. force the issue and don't give up! they will only buy them themselves guys.

as a reminder the upc on the 25 pack is 051122411854.

i bought all they had since noone else did in between my trips, sharing with dad! $464.72 for 24.64+tax is my deal of the year thanks again op.

went to santa clara cusa today
got one 50pk well hidden behind the regular-priced cdr (the only one left)
didn't see any of the 25pk audio cd -- but then again, i'm not really after them, so ...

and that story about sledgehammer destroying stuffs...
i'd assume that destroying the 88cent stuffs cost more than printing out receipt and stuffs (from selling us the things). i mean, they don't even have to ship the stuffs back to warehouse ...

i wonder why....
and the image of it is really scary .....
poor clearance goodies..... -(

anyways, thanks for the find...
now i'm all set to backup my pron.... eerrr... educational videos....

they don't have the 100 packs for 88cents ...
but they do have TDK 32x 100 packs for 15.88, which is not of much interest for now ...

as for the difference between the data and audio cdr ....
click click
more click click
(in summary, none except we're feeding extra money to the riaa, which we all should know by now is bad )

I found 1 pack of the 32x 50 pk at Austin North location hidden in the back. I didn't see any of the others, but I'll look again tomorrow. Paid & left w/o any probs. I later spent the money I saved on the CDR's to treat myself to lunch.

I've never heard that so I'd take that with a grain of salt. I have a Pioneer PDR-99 that I won back in '96 (maybe '95) as a part of a "Win It Before You Can Buy It" co-promotion with TDK. The PDR-99 will ONLY take Audio CDs - there is something different to the way they are made so that you can only burn audio to them and are meant to only be put into an audio only burner. I've owned three different cd-r drives for my pc and none of them have ever accepted the the audio only discs.

- - - unrelated, but when I won it, I couldn't afford to buy the discs or the optical cable for it at the time. I was a college student and I could only find those audio only blank discs online and they were about $15 a piece and the optical cable was selling for $10/foot and I couldn't find a store that would sell less than 10 feet at the time. Pioneer was great and mailed me the unit within 4 weeks of winning it (I think the drive was actually available for sale though by the time I received it - at least the cds were), but TDK took three months to mail me the discs (but ended up sending me 20 instead of 5 since they took so long to mail them out)

None in my area. All they had were the 40X & 48X. I checked every pack of Imation on the shelf and end cap display.

I always think that's shorthand for "in the general manager's trunk".

I worked at a Compusa for 4 years and I can confirm that field destroy actually means field destroy. Ive seen HP and Compaq boxes smashed to bits. Why they wouldnt let you take home old computers was beyond me, but if you ever walk into a store and see a clearanced computer, thats priced way above what its worth, its probably gonna get field destroyed. Contrary to what everyone believes there is very little margin on hardware, only about 10% or even less. On about a 1200 box typically there was about 110 in profit. So when something would turn up 6 months after its shelf life was over, we didnt want to sell it for $400 or so even though that's what it was worth. The reason is that the cost of the computer is still in the system and we would be taking a $500-600 loss on selling it, which would kill the sales figures for the day. I think that field destroying the items is a way to write it off the books and not kill numbers. To give you an example of how important that is, I worked a day after thanksgiving where we made $7000 in gross profit on $250,000 in sales, thats less than 3.5% gross profit, so we actually lost money that day after paying for the employees and rent, lights etc. I always thought it was a dumb rule that employees couldnt even buy the FD stuff, but I guess that's a way that Comp helps itself out. And as much as people bash the store, it was a pretty good place to work, and damn near impossible to take a paycheck home, because when your tempted by all sorts of fun toys that you can buy at cost, well you can imagine.

word word. thanks for the info.
just always paranoid-- this office depot hardware guy tried to sell me a hp computer that i had found at his store on clearance a week ago. at the time, he swore up and down it was d and d and couldn't let it go. thought VERY seriously about reporting him, but have a hunch that his type of stupidity could come in handy someday
so many times retail people have thrown blocks up to keep me from making my purchases that i am automatically wary (them occasionally pointing out weak deals to me doesn't help). good to see some people are actually doing what they say
again, thanks for the info
