That's some great deals on the BFG 6600GT OC at $199, too bad it's after 30 MIR... plus I need 2 of em and I doubt the limit is more than 1

I always send the second rebate to my next door neighbor. Postman, after a year, just started putting them in my mailbox.

KOTOR II for $30 isn't bad, if not stellar. Don't know what the quality of the screen is, but the dvd player apparently has a region free hack if anyone's into that (then again, for twice the price, there's a notebook...::shrugs:

That's easy to fix...

Load DVD into computer.
Open DVD Shrink.
Rip dvd full quality (shortest time) with region 0 to ISO.
Load DAEMON tools.
Load ISO.
Play DVD using dvd software.

There's probably some other work-arounds, but that's what I've done when I wanted to watch a foreign DVD on my region 1 laptop...

I agree that BFG cards are worth a little more than regular cards for their fantastic warranty, but I for the life of me have yet to understand why someone would spend $400 on two 6600GT's instead of 1 6800GT. At best, you get 6800GT performance from the two SLI'ed 6600GT's, and at worst (i.e. no SLI support in some games) you get only the performance of one 6600GT. Am I missing something? Is it the "coolness" of having two video cards in your rig?

EDIT: I'm down for one of the Cruzer Micro drives, it's a pretty good price! And that NeoPower is oh-so-tempting.

Just use Linux or FreeBSD, they don't use the drive's decryption support to start from and hence don't even notice the region bit.

Obviously you can't use a Linux live CD unless you find one which allows you to unmount it so tht you can insert the DVD. But somebody probably has something that allows you to do that with a USB memory stick or a file inside your Windows partition.

Alternatively, www.rpc1.org has flash software and new firmware for pretty much anything. However, you need floppy to do that if you don't find a Windows-based flasher. You cannot flush from your IDE harddrive under DOS since the IDE bus will be blocked during the transfer to the DVD and hence the whole show will deadlock. You might be able to use a RAMdisk, though.

Region encoding sucks, but less for Linux/FreeBSD users
