Magellan GPS Companion for Palm V/Vx GPS receiver now lowered to $39.99 + Tax + $5 shipping.

Link to Magellan GPS (SKU#279804)

Use this link to PM to Staples, SKU# MGA98058801 instore or by phone. Called Staples and the CSR was very willing to PM, but Staples is out of stock in my delivery area. Try a B&M store or do an AMEX blue PM as a last resort.

For Anandtechers in Queens NY, Compusa Rego Park Store has 2 left for $49.88 + Tax. I spent my whole evening stuck in traffic driving from Manhattan to buy one. Was very tempted to buy all three, but left two for fellow ATers

GPS = Global Positioning System which is a set of navigational satellites owned by the US DoD

No contracts or payments are required because its owned by the government.

I wished you posted the deal earlier, I was in the vincinity twice tonight! What time did you leave the store? Maybe I should go there in the morning and snap one for myself! Now, here's a reason to keep my Palm Vx another few months

The Omnisky modem was fun for a while, but I do not travel as much as I would like to.

I was there at the store at 8pm till 9pm closing, thanks to NYC traffic on Qns Blvd. Head up the escalator and the first thing on your left should see the PDA department. It is located on the bottom of the GPS showcase behind the sales counter. Box is silver in color with a pic of the Palm V mounted to the GPS. I'm pretty sure I was the only AT bargain hunter (and warthogah) there tonight. Go there at opening time tomorrow and ye shall be rewarded

P.S. Looks like they have those Magellan 310 handheld GPS units too. I don't need one because the NAV software that comes with the Palm V GPS supports mapping, routing and waypoints like any regular GPS! Other goodies still in stock at that B&M includes the $19.99 Uniden Walkie-Talkies, $29.99MIR Belkin Routers and $29.99 MIR Thrustmaster Steering Wheels. Man, this store is huge compared to those in Manhattan!

Good hunting DieselMan

For others not located in NYC I suggest buying at amazon.com and PM to CUSA website w/ AMEX Blue.

Just came back from staples, they said the comusa Mfg Part #: 980582-05 is different from the staples one. They can not do PM. So upset.

You can blame Compusa for entering the wrong part number on the website. The one I bought from Compusa B&M is Magellan Part # 980588-01, UPC # 763357102840, which is the same as the Staples one. Also, check on the Magellan website, there is only 1 model of GPS companion made for Palm V and Vxs.

Damn, sold out online; couldn't complete the checkout process for the whole night and the whole morning; now that I've come back from lunch they're all gone; was anyone able to buy one of these online today, or were they already out of stock without updating their page?

swNYC, I had a phone conference @work this morning, couldn't go
If anyone goes to compusa this afternoon, in Rego Park, can you pick one up for me? Pretty please?

Ok

It states that this is good for the palm V/Vx series.
Would this include the VIIx?
If not, is there a GPS companion for the VIIx?

thanks

V/Vx and VIIx have completely different chasis, so I would say it woulndnt fit. The M500 series are actually closer in terms of dimension so there is a chance that it might fit but my Vx fits very tightly so I'm not sure.

Im trying to get as much accesory fot my Vx since it's getting harder and harder to find them. for 50bux, this was a great deal and I matched the GPS companion kit with a afterburner overclocking program for better performance.

I plan to use it in my car while driving but I'm gonna have to find something to fix the palm onto. perhaps one of those cheap cellphone holders.

I've got the Rand McNally GPS for my Palm Vx, which is the same unit. It came with a holder that attaches to the windshield via suction cups. Check around, you should be able to find one of these by itself somewhere.

Was anyone able to PM at Staples?
I tried to PM there, but they refused. The part # on the compusa page is wrong.

If anyone was able to PM at Staples, please post a receipt or PM me.

TIA

Picked up one at the compusa in Morrow, GA for $49.88.
When I left, there were 3 remaining.
Good luck!

How long have you left it trying to get a fix? It can take up to 20 minutes to get a fix the first time. I just took mine out to the car and let it go far awhile. Now it only takes a few minutes. Make sure you have fresh batteries or power to the GPS unit.

When you first power on the unit it takes around 15 mins. to acquire a fix. After this initial delay, the GPS collects constellation and almanac data from the satellite signals, so that it can predict the locations of the satellite on your next power on. Note that if you move the unit 500+ miles without powering on, the GPS may require a new initialization fix.

Nice, thanks. I'll head over to Comp USA after work to see if I can pick one up.

Some of the B&Ms still have these lying around. They are sold for $49.88 at the B&M. I just picked up the last one in Colorado Springs. I tried to get it for the Internet Only deal of under $40, but their average cost was $52 so they would not budge.

The CompUSA on Cobb Pkwy in Marietta, GA had about 6 or 7 left there. I bought mine for $50 and picked up a AAA recharger and batteries for $15.

I hope this is fun.
