I actually don't like it when people do this. It makes it more likely that those who go to the sale and wait in line might actually come up short because the stock has been depleted.

Thanks for the info on the CDRs. For what its worth I recently got a bunch of TDKs-50 were CMC and the rest were riteks. All were burnt as audio discs. At least 3/4 of the CMCs came out bad (staticy noises towards the end of the disc), the riteks seemed fine. I'll stay away from CMC from now on.

I wish Fuji would go back to TY.

yea i agree i wouln't want my mother in law in a bmw either!

Wow, so there are gonna be two local B&M deals tomorrow in one day.

Morning for the Fry's grand opening deals and then afternoon for the Compusa deal.

Too bad I am broke as hell and just got some SD card from staples. Probably, I will just go checking out stuff.

Jeez RossMAN, 41536 posts and just a Grand Nagus. You should be at a Gold-pressed Latinum Grand Nagus or something like that.

There's another $200 one for the 2594 that covers 3/19 5:15 PM until 3/20 1:00 AM.

But the "310931" part lets you find out everything CompUSA has to say about it.

I was not criticizing your post, Allisolm, just the practice of retailers leaving out the name of crappy manufacturers and stressing the "megapixels." Kinda like Intel stressing GHz for their otherwise inefficient processors and companies like Dodge putting a crap-bucket around a 200-HP engine and selling it based on that number...just poking a little fun there.

You're right about the lack of brand in the ads. They fail to take into account the discerning nature of the Anandtechers and our ability to ferret out ALL the information about an item. They think we will blindly buy based on their description. Ha! Not us!

If they are indeed the Memorex that I picked up Sunday, they are made by either Ritek or CMC Magnetics. The way to tell who makes them before buying, if you have a preference, is looking at the copyright date on the label.

The CMC disks say copyright 2003, and the Ritek say 2004. The spindle tops are also slightly different, the CMC's have a round upright "nipple" while the Ritek's have like an octogan shape and don't protrude up as much.

That's very interesting, that Ritek discs are now entering the mix under the Memorex brand-name. I picked up quite a few of these CD-Rs during the Black Friday sale (same deal). Most of the spindles (the ones with the higher-ridged circular "crown" on the top of the spindle), were CMC (according to the ATIP), although if you looked carefully at the markings on the inner ring, there were actually 4 seperate varieties of CMC that I was able to identify. (Different mfg plants?)

The other spindles were rounded down on the top and kind of octagonal looking. All of those discs identified as ProDisc, and from some informal testing, seemed to be slightly-lower quality than the CMCs, although the 52x-rated CMCs seemed to burn just fine in several drives.

I'll have to look out for the Riteks, I've been buying Maxell spindles specifically for Ritek discs, as the ones that I've been getting, have shown error-rate graphs equal to or even better than T-Y media.

Thanks for the info.

Look for the 2004 copyright and the hexagon shaped center. The lip is also a tiny bit shorter and the base is black.

what amuses me is that CompUSA's birthday used to be in mid-April. Wonder how time changed and it became mid-March.

Thanks,

I got this last sunday and it turned out to be a rebadges LiteOn 811S. I am happy with it, and my apex (best $50 I ever spent) even reads all the media I've burned with it!
