A friend of mine told me about being charged a 15% restocking fee at CrapUSA after they had supplied the wrong part for a computer. Go figure. The restocking fee along with trying to actually get your rebates from their rebate center in New Rochelle cured me of buying much of anything from them. I have taken an item or two up to their customer service desk and asked them to look up and see where the rebate address was and then told them why I didn't want to buy it. They even agreed with me about my reason.

I never got charge the restocking fee. The last item I returned was a 27" viewsonic lcd tv. I bought it, opened it, didn't like it, returned it.
I was credited the amount that I paid. No hassle. So far CompUSA has been nice to me...

If it was defective, why don't you RMA it to Maxtor? Maxtor is pretty good about RMAs (even though warranty duration plummetted) and you can even get an "advance" RMA and have the replacement drive in 2-3 days.

well, why RMA when you can just exchange it? Save money on shipping and you also get an instant exchange

No conflict. If you read the site under holiday returns/exchanges, it says that anything bought during the holiday season can be returned for full price until January 8th.

I bought a BBA x800 Pro video card from them. It had artifacts on lots of games, so I went back to return it. I had everything in the box, and the box didn't have a scratch on it, and the guy said I had to pay a 15% restocking fee because the item was so expensive.

To make an excruciating story short, after debating w/ him for over 10 minutes, I finally got him to get his manager. He, as well, said there was a restocking fee. So, I got them to check their website so they could see for themselves there should not be a restocking fee. They finally agreed with me and didn't charge it. Needless to say after all this, they were very unhappy and just wanted me out of the store.

I don't think I'll be going back there.

I haven't bought anything at CrapUSA in years, them removing the restocking fee for a few weeks doesn't impress me, rather shop at newegg anyday -- better prices and better service.

often times there are still great deals @ compusa that you'd hesitate to purchase because of that 15% restocking fee. great to know that compusa is trying to become more friendly while bestbuy is becoming more communistic.
