I was just told by our managers that we have completely removed the 15% restocking fee. Just as long as it is in like new condition with all the paperwork (I mean everything) then they will return it. Don't try to abuse this by renting products because they know who you are and will basically tell you to eat sh!t if you start pulling that. This doesn't apply to software though. If you open up software its yours. Reason why I posted this is for you guys worried about the restocking fee from CompUSA if you were to get a laptop. Also the return length has been pushed back to January 8th so dont worry about buying a christmas gift for someone and they end up wanting something else.

Thanks for the info Zeppelin2282...

Does this relate to rebuys, for Black Friday? In other words, can I buy something now for regular price and then go back to CUSA on BF and return/rebuy it for the BF special price?

Thanks.

I'm sure if you didn't open it wouldn't be a problem at all.

i would love to NOT shop at CompUSA but there's no other computer stores here cept for Best Buy, Microcenter, etc. in NY... waiting for Fry's I recently returned an overheating Maxtor 250 GB SATA Hard Drive to CompUSA and the guy gave me the hardest time.. I tell him the drive is defective, and he and I know the drive is out of stock now (because the HD shelves are not that far away from the return customer service counter). He makes some bullcrap story that the WD, Maxtor, Seagate, etc manufacturers charge them a premium (15%) for items opened when CompUSA has to ship it back to them... I knew he was talkin out of his arse, and argue with the guy. I finally settle with a Gift Card for the full refund, which I wind up giving to a relative cause I hate the store so much...

Idiots finally learned. I stopped going there 3 years ago when they started that policy.

Depends on the store and if the manager is a d!ck or not. Just bring that up during the sale and get their word on it. At my store we are really fair with our customers and always have our sh!t together. It sucks that because of crap managed stores CompUSA gets a bad rep.

So before they would charge you to return an item even if it was unopened? Is this right? I shop there once in a while just because it is closer than fry`s and i never knew this. I`ve never had to return anything.

No this is only on opened items. Back when there was the restocking fee you wouldnt be charged if the box wasnt open.

I'm surprised CompUSA, and Circuit City have not tried to capitalize on the WSJ article about BestBuy's new "Angels vs. Devils" policy. If I worked for the PR/Advertising department for either one of those companies, I'd definitely try to steal some market share back.

CompUSA? more like ConUSA. If you look at price for some of their products.. it's rediculous... you can easily get $70 off by just shopping online.

Not to buck the trend, but I had a good experience at CompUSA. I ordered a video card from them once and when I went to pick it up, they couldn't find it in the store. So the manager came and told me he was very sorry and gave me the next model higher up video card with double the memory for the same price.

i've had generally positive expiriences with compusa, they've jst messed me up once, and that once was all it took to lose me as a customer. I never should have to eat a defective product within a 14 day return period.

but seriously, i would consider shopping there more often if their return policy wasn't as such. I don't want to open an item, try it out, realize it doesnt work for me, then have to pay to return it. Not that it's unreasonable persay, but so many retailers won't charge to do that, i'd rather go there.

Glad to hear it wemt well for you. I ordered something that said In-Stock online, went to the store to pick it up, made me wait around 45 min and then told me it wasn't there. Not so much as an apology. I don't think I'll be shopping there again.

I dont see how they wont return your product if it is deffective. Just the other day someone returned a laptop I sold them because the screen was burnt and we happily gave them a new one. Were you trying to just return it and get your money back?

I've received some conflicting information concerning the returns policy... the on-line customer service says that the 15% restocking fee still applies for opened products. The only difference is that the return period for holiday purchases is extended to January 8th.

I returned a Digital Camera yesterday. It reminded me why I hate CompUSA. It was brand new, unopened. The CSR takes everything out of the box, unbags the camera, checks the serial number against the box and receipt. Then she meticulously repackages the box. Then she calls a manager who has to double check it. He takes everything out of the box, unbags the camera, checks the serial number against he box and receipt. Then he meticulously repackages the box.

The funniest thing, is I returned it because I saw that Costco had the same digicam on their website, and I'd much rather buy it there for their return policy.

I think you must've made a mistake and gone next door to Circuit City instead.
