was a Plextor in disguise...updated the name, the firmware and all is well

Rphman, all you can do is wait. Their website doesn't seem to have good tracking info, in fact, it's all messed up as everybody has said.

I also paid mine to be shipped 2days fedex and it's shown on their webpage. Item shown as shipped and it took about 4-5 days to reach my door.

I should have gone with regular ground, but, anyway I am glad I got one.

Does anyone know if the drive is a sanyo, is it burnproof?..and if not, what's the buffer memory this baby has.

Looks like I'm in for a leetle rough water here...Compusa says the drive was delivered .. two days ago. No drive has arrived this past week. Any advice?

OK, shipped Feb 7. Astounding. Expected delivery date to NYC, Feb 14. If anyone gets one of these Feb 7 shipments in the meantime, please let us know whether you get the Plextor or Sanyo. Thanks.

how do you know if its a sanyo? i thought all 12x/10x/32x are rebadged plextor. someone prove me wrong/

Look at the front bezel. If it has to LEDs, its a sanyo, if it has only one, its a plextor. Here are pics of the two:

You can clearly see the difference. The Sanyo also has lots of "holes" on the case. ALl new drives coming from Iomega will be Sanyo. If you havent gotten your drive yet, it will be a Sanyo. By the way, I just went to CompUSA and they gave me a pricematch for the other drive I ordered. I ordered two, got one, so my local CompUSA gave me the other one @ 129.99 + Tax. That was at the Honolulu CompUSA.

Many of people who have received theirs over the past few days have reported Plextors. It is not known if Iomega has totally switched manufactures from Plextor to Sanyo. Plextor probably couldn't manufacture the drives fast enough so Iomega ordered some from Sanyo too.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! My drive just came FEDEX 2 day, shipped 2/6 and delivered 2/8 at 12:13 (TX to NY). It's a PLEXTOR!! The job code is 43270 manufact date is 1/01 and the TLA# is 0306, hsven't installed it yet so I don't know the firmware (probably 1.06)!! For all you guys still waiting there's still a good chance you'll get the Plextor!! Now if I can get the rebate, what is everyone sending (and where) for the invoice?? Packing slip, invoice from website?? I ordered 12/31.

Yes, I received an email stating it was sent on monday. Now I'm waiting to see if it's a plextor or a sanyo. No big deal either way, it's a still a excellent price for either model.

Got a quick qestion...what are the benefits of flashing the cdrw with plextor firmware? Considering it is only a rebadged plextor, wouldn't it have the same features as it already?
I have a TDK Velocd that is supposedly a rebadged plextor as well. TDK came with it's own 1.7 firmware. So i'm just curious as what are the benefits of renaming it.

Check out their site for more detailed info. You can also check cdrinfo.com (or something like that). They do testing and breakdowns of the different drives/software etc.

For what it's worth, I just got my rebate today (sent it in that first week after the CompUSA sale). Nice turn-around time. Kudos to Iomega.

doh! i got the sanyo iomega drive. it doesn't look too bad. hopefully, it burns wells as good as the plextors.

damn it. I've been on hold for days about getting the rebate. Eveytime I get through, they give me a different number to call. I ask them to connect it for me. When they do I get hung up on. When I dial the number they gave me, it's been disconnected.


Scumbags. It's still a good deal but when you send out an email saying all rebates will be honored no matter what, then that should happen.

i don't even want this drive anymore. Have had nothing but trouble with it's adaptec software. I now use Nero.

I thought I went a bit extreme when I panicked at the prospect of getting a Sanyo...but I had already posted info and links to cdrinfo.com's review of the Sanyo 12x10x32x...YES it has burnproof, YES it has a 2 MB buffer. In fact, it is very nearly as good as the Plextor EXCEPT it is missing DAO RAW...now, how important this is depends if you specifically need this feature. If you don't know what this feature is, you probably don't need it anyways. BUT, it does lack this, so the sanyo is a bit inferior to the plextor.

Shipped 2/6...still waiting...(live in ohio, so maybe it's got a long way to go)
