Received mine today.
Order #541xx, order 12/31/00 at 12:56 PM.
Drive is a Plextor.
I received a packing slip with mine that has my name, address, description of the merchandise (Iomega 12x10x32 CDRW), purchase price, and the serial number of the drive. It shows a ship date of 02/05/01, but does not show the purchase date. Do you guys think this would be better than the receipt for the rebate, since the date on the receipt is 12/31/00 and will be mailed late? This is not a generic packing list, it is a CompUSA form.

Usually using a packing slip is acceptable if the manufacturer has a good reputation on rebate.

But I would definitely include both packing slip and receipt when dealing with rebate.

You can print the receipt off from their website and use the rebate form dated between Dec 31-Mar something.

db,

Hope you're wrong 'cause the man at IOMEGA promo center said to mail the 'old' rebate, the receipt & proof-of-purchase thing to the IOMEGA promo center address. That's what I did! We'll see what happens.

HKSturboKID the Sanyo drive does have BURN-Proof technology. Sanyo invented it so it's pretty much standard on all their new drives. Now that I've read a days worth of reviews I'm not so disappointed in getting the Sanyo drive. Actually it is a very highly-rated drive so the sting isn't as strong from not getting the Plex.

Thanks for the reply, now I have another question, I just installed Nero and it doesn't recognize the drive. I am running nero 5.0.2.2. Does anyone have the same problem. I start the nero program and its detecting the scsi/ide device and freezes.

sanyo or plex, personally i wouldn't care. both great drives.

sanyo created burnproof, so all companies that have burnproof liscense it from sanyo and most buy parts from sanyo as well. so the plextor 12/10/32 is basicly a modded sanyo.

If anyone still cares, I received my drive which FedEX Ground in Shreveport was holding hostage for over a week and pretending to deliver every two days. It is a Plextor. Now here is the important stuff: I somehow (don't ask me how) managed to get CompUSA CSR to create a three-way conference call with Iomega Promotions CSR and me. I placed my order on 12/31/00 and here is what I was told to do:

Use the current rebate form, include packing slip which shows the price paid and of course the UPC and send it to PO Box 8380. I was assured by the Iomega guy that this would work just fine. I know some others have been told different things but I recall someone else in this thread said essentially to do the same thing. Hope it works!!

I spent a couple of hours on the phone today at work checking with CompUSA and Iomega. What a pain in the butt that was. I was told the same as you guys, use current rebate form from Iomega website and use the packing slip. Thanks for the replies. Hope the rebate goes thru, but still a great deal if it doesn't.

Got mine today, even though it said on their site scheduled delivery is on the 12th. Job order 43270, so should be a Plextor, but the box was all crushed in and had a hole in it. I called and they said I could exchange it at my local store, but then why the hell couldn't I pick it up from my store since they've had it for a few weeks already. The packing was pathetic, the box they used to ship it was the same depth as the box for the CD-RW, and of course the outer box was smashed in, so...

For those of you that have flashed your IOMega to a Plextor, did you download Plextor manager? That's the only software I found for this drive at their site. I can't really find out what the software does. Anyone know and if it's worth the download?

Well I finally got my drive after being patient, even though I did get on the TDK deal and had that in one day. But thought if it ever did come through I could find some one who wanted it. Did I get the 12x10x32 NO! I got the 8x4x32, *(*&heads! I called customer service and could hear them laughing in the background. He said I could maybe take it to a B&M and they would swap it if I was lucky, or they would set up a return pickup and would call me in 48 hrs. Like they're going to call me ha! I took it to the b&m and if I was smart I would have walked out the door with the drive in the box, but no I had to ask if that was all? Ok live and learn, went to another and acted stupid and the real nice girl let me switch it no problem and I got the right drive! Good luck to all of you...

haha, steveme, you lucky bastard, of course you could probably use the receipt and exchange that 8x for a 12x for free

Pretty happy with my sanyo, i need to get the rebate though. I printed out some rebate forms awhile ago, though...one that expired on the 12/31 and one that expired on 3/31 or something...so...i dont need to get a new one, right?

My box says it's a 12x10x32x and the drive itself says it's that speed. But Easy CD only lets me select 4x max for cd-rw recording...it does cd-r at 12x just fine. Is it possible iomega mislabeled a 12x4x32 drive? tech support says it's because i'm using 4x cdrw discs..so it won't let me select any higher.. But i've been buring cd-r on 8x discs and it lets me select 12x. Any ideas?

Write and Re-write are different story.

to rewrite at the exact speed, you need to get cdrw media that is meant to be used at that speed.

Seems like you guys received your order with patient. I cancelled my order a weeks ago. I ordered 4 of them and tire of waiting.

I got mine a little more than a week ago, it was a plextor one, but it's old. I think November 2000. I ordered two, but only got one. Oh well, at least I got one...=)

Man, 600 posts almost!
