computer acting as a router

so i just got to school and initially had my desktop set up as a bridge to my laptop so i could have internet on both. but for some reason the desktop was giving off router network ips (192.168...) so i had to manually pick an ip. but now i have my computers both hooked up through hub so i am no longer using the network bridge. i disabled it and uninstalled the second network card, but now any time if i put that computer on the network it supposedly assigns other people in my building 192.168 addresses so they cannot get on the network.

anyone have any idea what setting i may have on that is causing this to occur?

As a workaround, you might be able to turn off the DNS server option on the internet connection sharing for that nic card... then you'd stop acting as a server for other people.

Not too familiar with Winxp networking, wish I could help out :-/

If your computer is giving addresses out, then it is acting as a DHCP server. Disable the DHCP service.

The DHCP Client service can still be running. It's the server that you should shut off.

If it's not there, check the properties of your lan connection and make sure that internet connection sharing is off.
