Computer and LCD on an airplane.

I am going to Europe for the summer and I am taking my desktop PC as well as an LCD monitor with me.

Will those scanners that the airports use to check (for bombs etc) damage any of the hardware?

Also, will it be safer if i take them in their own box, or if i pack them in a hard plastic bag?

Pack them so you'd feel safe dropping them from a 2-story building and you should be ok. Call around to airlines and ask for advice on how to best pack them.

I don't think i would feel safe dropping them from a 2 story building no matter how good i pack them But i don't think in the airplane or at the airports they will shake it so much.

I think their own boxes might be safer, but boxes are more difficult to handle + I don't know how they will react at customs when they see me with 2 big boxes (and i don't want to pay tax for it !!)

it would be easier to ship them but much more expensive. It will be over $100 for the computer and another $60 for the monitor !! (except if i send them with the method that takes a month or more)

Pack them in their original box (if you have it) or one like it, then get a box about 3 inches larger on each side and fill that full with Styrofoam peanuts on all 6 sides.

So you think they are so sensitive ah? .. to take the boxes I will have to make special arrangments with the airline (BA), I will call them tomorrow and see what they say.
