computer auto startup help!

does anybody know how to setup the computer to start up automatically at a set time? or does anybody know of any hardware that will allow me to do that? for example, I want my computer to turn on at 1pm and so I set it at 1pm and i'm at work, but the computer will still turn on........if anybody has any suggestions please let me know.......thanks...........

it's generally an option in your bios. at least it's an option in mine. If you don't have it, try getting the latest version of your bios from your motherboard manuf.

If you have a network card that supports it, you can have another device on your network trigger it to start up. Some broadband routers have this option, though you can't schedule it easily. I think there are also freeware programs that you could run on another computer to start it up. Anything that uses the MAC address to do a wake-on-lan. Or if you have a phone line and modem, you could wake it by calling it. But if your goal is to start it up all by itself, then it has to be supported in your BIOS.

after that you can program your email to open and send a few messages; you'll have the perfect ferris bueller. just make sure the camera doesn't catch you at the cubs game.

I went to the bios and under power management and I set the RTC auto start to turn on at a certain time, but when I tested it, my computer didn't turn on at that time. I know you need an atx power supply, and I think I am using one because it came with my atx case. Am I missing something?

not to insult you, but sometimes the obvious is missed. did you enter the time in 24:00 (military) format? I'm assuming it's pm where you are, so that might affect it. otherwise, not sure, I've never played with it, I just know it's there. another obvious...your computer still has power to it right? not like a surge protector switch off? sorry again if I'm insulting your intelligence...just covering the basics first.

haha...I set it at 1600 hours which is 4pm to test it and I turned off the computer by shutting it down and not by the surge protector. The thing is that I do not know if there are any other steps i'm missing.

sorry again. I set mine at work to turn on tomorrow morning at 7. Will let you know if it's as simple as it's supposed to be. if it is, I'm doubting you're missing anything, it might just not be functioning properly. is it an older version of bios or one you just downloaded today?
