Computer Blue Screens at random.

Alright, This computer was just built for a friend of mine (Specs Below.) and he keeps having it blue screen based on several different factors. First of all, it will blue screen anywhere, anytime. it used to blue screen only when playing a game for a bit, and he couldn't play any games, because the computer would blue screen after about 10 minutes of gaming.

Well, then he changed the Graphics drivers from 13.12 to 14.1 Beta, and it would crash anywhere. then he went to 14.2 beta, and it wouldn't even let him start the computer as it would crash barely a few minutes after booting. Logically he tried another video card, which sucked and didnt allow him to play any games at all, and it did not blue screen. well, that should signal graphics card problems correct? well, I placed this very same graphics card into 2 other computers and, in both of them, it performed fantastic, and there were no problems even after switching drivers to all of the ones listed above.

After all of this pain, I took the two hard drives in the computer and formatted them, and then raided them, (Raid0) and cleaned every component in the computer and re-installed windows. I then proceeded to install drivers, starting with the graphics drivers (13.12 again) and all went well until I went to install the LAN driver, as i double-clicked the file it blue screened. I ignored it and let the computer restart, it sucessfully installed the LAN driver and other drivers, then I played some games, which ran perfectly, and ran Furmark and prime95 for about and hour apiece, not a single issue. the computer had 5-6 hours of uptime, then I went to download google chrome, and as soon as the download finished, it Blue screened again. is there any explanation for this at all??? Please help!

What is the brand, model, and wattage of the PSU? It sounds like it could be an underpowered / bad PSU to me.

Ok, the results of the program you told me to get show all four of my crash dumps.. and two of them are the same. Two of them point to the file: dxgmms1.sys which is a directX thing, one pointed to volsnap.sys, the volume shadow copy driver. and the other pointed to ntoskrnl.exe, apparently a NT Kernel and System file.

To answer the questioj about the PSU, it is an Apevia ATX-CB700W power supply, it is 700 Watts, and should be sufficient as it has powered the same computer before, just with a different motherboard. Though it could be bad. Also, if it matters, it has a sata power on it that was pulled at an angle out of a CD drive, which broke it, so that sata power cable is unused now.

The power numbers would be fine if it was a decent psu. If you are within the return window, swap it for a better brand. A good brand 500 watt unit would be plenty for that build. See the comments on the unit you mentioned here:

so, are you saying that it is most definitely the power supply? I cannot return the PSU as it is way past that time.. but I think I might be able to get one to use. Thanks for your help.

It is the power supply.. I just took mine out of my own computer and put it in there. and there are no problems whatsoever. I will tell him to look for one. any recommendations for a good, cheap one would be greatly appreciated

Thanks a lot guys.. yeah I know that Antec is a good brand.. I had cases of theirs that are simply AMAZING. I have an OCZ PSU in my computer.. but of course, OCZ is a little........... out of the question. XD ever since they got bought out prices have skyrocketed.. I do miss the old OCZ. but anyways, thanks again!
