MONITOR:
Dell 2005FPW. Question... I mean, I?d order this now but I wouldn?t have computer parts to test it on (except my old 733 celeron with a GeForce 4 MX420)... so should I just pass up this current coupon round and wait for the next sale? Considering if it isn?t right I?ll need to return it for another one...

Ummmmm, so what else am I missing and needing?

Any idea on what to cut costs maybe or is it fine?

EDIT: Stock case fans are cool right?

This puts me to (currently) $1292 excluding the monitor (but including shipping of all other parts).

Ok, these are the parts that i think you should get out of this list:

The case

processor

The X800 XL

Mobo: changed to epox

The first Patriot memory

You dont need a different cooler, the stock one is fine.

This antec power supply

This DVD/CD burner because the one you picked out had no cables

Get the second HD because it has more space

The arctic silver is fine

The flopy is fine

The mouse is good

The keyboard is fine

Windows XP home There isnt anything in xp pro thats worth the money in my opinion.

TOTAL: $1403.56 I dont know how much it would be with the monitor that you choose.

This took a long time so you better like it!!

Is a powersupply that costs that much that necessary? I'm running on a Thermaltake Purepower 420w for $36 shipped on Newegg, haven't had any problems with it, and it's very nice for a budget power supply, and I OC whatever I can in my box. =)

All i did was find a quality PSU with good reviews and strong pipes.

You could save a little bit of money by going with a 3000+ if you are overclocking. Ewiz has the OEM for $117 last time I checked. Any reason in particular you chose that particular X800XL? The reason the X800XL is often recommended is because it is cheaper then the 6800GT while still performing around the same. If you are really going to spend that much on a X800XL you might as well get a 6800GT since it will easily Oc to Ultra speeds. Or you can get the X800XL from Monarch for $250.

As for the motherboard I think the Epox NF4 Ultra board would be perfect for you. It is a good overclocker. I would also just go with the cheaper RAM. The lower latency RAM will do basically nothing for real-world performance. Also the RAM that is $160 is not worth it at all IMO. For around that price you can get 2GB of Value RAM. The RAm choice really will not effect your CPU overclock at all either. Just run a divider.

The XP-90 is a great choice. As for the fan I would suggest this. It is a nice balance between performance and noise (link)

The Seasonic is a great choice, but you could save some money by going with something like a Fortron AX500-A (link)

As for the HDD I would get the Hitachi drive. It performs very well for a good price (Hitachi 7K250 250GB)

As for the OS, unless you need to feutures of Pro go Home. Most likely you do not need any of the extra feutures so it is better to just stick with Home.

As for the LCD I don't know about the widescreen. I have no experience with any widescreen LCD's, but from what I have heard it may better to just get the 2001FP for gaming.

That motherboard is exactly the one I was refering to. It is a good overclocker and I feel it would be perfect for you since you said you wanted to lighlty overclock since you are new to it.

As for the CPU you can get the 3000+ OEM here. That saves you a good $70 and since all venices basically OC the same it is a wise choice.

Okay, so... 3000+ is better for my money then...

Wait, why would that NEC drive not come with cables? If that's true, maybe I should get it's retail version:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152052
which is still cheaper than that Plextor.
Would that fix that problem of no cables?
ACTUALLY, hold up! That drive I picked out is on sale free shipping and is half the price of the one you showed me... couldn't I just get the cables seperately and still save some cash?

... not to criticize, I appreciate your help, but I just noticed that.

The only reason I chose that X800 XL was because it had that big ol' quiet Zalman cooler on it, but now I see the error of my ways.

I edited and changed several things (as you can see)... I think I'll go with the Corsair VS since that seems to be very popular and since you say it won't hamper any OC'ing I do.

EDIT: Should I get one or both hard drives? I was thinking one for program installs and the other for storage, but maybe I should cut it down to 1?

Just to make sure, there is nothing worse about that cheaper Connect3D x800xl than say, an ASUS one thats 280 bucks?

The cables SHOULD just come with your mobo. Most retail mobos come with like an IDE cable or something... Everything else looks fine. However, why are you getting 2 hard drives? You could get like a 320GB+ drive for the price of those 2 combined...

Wow, did I not read that incorrectly, or does that CPU only have a 7 day warranty? I think I would get the retail from newegg for $146, you would be fine with the stock HSF.

I think I'm going to just get 1 HDD. Just that 200 gig one, unless you have a different brand suggestion.

Also, we stickin with the Corsair VS for this bad boy or what?

-yikes- 7 day warranty? Ah, actually it says:

___________
After the 30 days (7 days for CPU and memory) replacement for refund period, defective parts may be returned to ewiz.com for repair according to the following warranty period:

* AMD CPU OEM: 6 months from invoice date
___________

Is that okay enough or should I just spend the extra 26 at newegg to be safe? I do want an XP-90 though, I do I do...

If you do, I'd recommend creating two partitions: one for Windows + Apps (60gb), and one (140gb) to store your music, videos, and documents. It made my recent upgrade so much easier to not have to worry about backing up my tons of data - I just reformatted the system partition, reinstalled my apps, and was good to go.

Yeah, that's what I had been thinking of, only using two seperate drives, but that's kind of dumb of me, I guess one drive ought to do for now and I can tack another one on later if needed.

And still, corsair VS or faster RAM?
