Hello everyone, its my first post!

I'm currently in the process of building my first rig and as soon as finals are over I'll finally get to start putting it all together.

I jumped on the Fry's deal for the C2D E6750/Abit IP35-E combo for $198 after MIR and bought the thermaltake 430W psu from newegg ages ago (i have seriously been planning on doing this for years). Fry's also had a good deal on OCZ DDR2 ram - 2gb for $19.99 after MIR so thats basically what I'm working with.

Basically, thanks mechbgon for an awesome tutorial, I plan on using it when I begin.

I'll be sure to post more details / ask questions when I start!

Sound cards are indeed optional but in my opinion underestimated component of a PC.
Sure you get onboard sound and it is OK but if you are gaming then you are better of with a Sound Blaster card. For home theater setups there are some cards from Asus or Auzentech - these come with dolby encoding, handy if you are hooking your PC to a receiver.
Some handy links about sound cards and what they do:

thanks for this thread
i am noob and really apreciate the guide with the picture.

the highlight was the video which gave me enough confidnce that i can make the desktop now.

one observation is that i hv not seen anyone wearing anti static wrist strap or evn mat, are they not required.

what precautions should i specifially take for the static electricity:thumbsup:

If the computer's power-supply unit is plugged in, then the computer's case is grounded, so you can ground yourself by touching the case periodically, and maintaining contact with the case when you are touching the components. If you avoid working in an area with carpet, that will probably help too. I've never used an anti-static wrist strap, but it would be a good solution, if you want to get one

Help!

New at upgrading and resource sharing.

How do you connect two CPU's to share resources?

What can you share besides files&folders?

Also can you go from 164 pin memory cards to 240 without changing mother board?

I know some of you are rolling on the floor , but - we all start some where and my 12 year old son wont help anymore!

Thanks

Hello my Indian friend

What is your main purpose for buying this ?

Your budget seems to be too tight for what you are looking for, extending it to Rs 20k will make it good with a decent gfx card !

Hi,

This is my 1st post here. I am planning to build a Desktop PC since my Intel 810i motherboard which has worked for almost 10 yrs now, seems to be giving problems. Right now, i want to build the fastest PC!

I dont mind the cost as you can guess that i want it to last long. The only things that come to my mind is that if not, it should be upgradeable and should have the best of features (like the new ports and support for PS/2 ports etc). Since i already have a Samsung 17" monitor (may upgrade later, not right now), a Samsung CDWriter, Logitech Keyboard & Mouse, I just need to concentrate on the following (with their latest prices in Rupees):

1] Best Processor (preferably the latest with the least heat dissipation & vcore & Stock voltages) - Rs. ?
2] Best Mobo compatible with Processor - Rs. ?
3] Best DDR2 RAM 1600/1333/1066 Mhz etc - Rs. ?
4] Best HDD (Seagate Barracuda 10,000/7200 rpm) - Rs. ?
5] Best Cooling System compatible with Processor & Mobo - Rs. ?
6] Best Cabinet with Best SMPS ( > 600/700W) compatible with Processor & Mobo - Rs. ?

If someone can help me with this based on their experience and benchmark reviews, would most appreciate it. Please let me know if i am missing anything else.

I'm a newbie a complete PC Building and this may or may not be a stupid question. My motherboard is a Biostar TA790GX 128M . When installing this motherboard in my NZXT Tempest Enthusiast case . Do I need to use the pink motherboard washers with this board ? If so , how do you get the bottom washers to stay in place , while placing the motherboard in the case ?
Other components Zalman CNPS9700LED cpu fan / heatsink , AMD Phenom x4 9950BE, Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 gb. , Hitachi Deskstar 500 gb. , VisionTek HD4670 1 gb. , Zalman 6 channel fan controller , 8 gbs. Corsair XMS2 PC 8500 1066 mhz. DDR2 ram and a Corsair TX750W 750 watt power supply. TV Tuner , Sound Card and newer video card to be added in a few months . Video card will probably be a single Radeon HD4870 or 4890 1 gb. It's going to be running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit . Then maybe Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit , if Microsoft decides to give us Vista Ultimate users a better price cut on an than $220.00 - 230.00 .
PROBABLY WISHFUL THINKING . Just like the ultimate EXTRAS , they never gave us . The ones we got weren't Ultimate at all .
