Lately my computer has been crashing after running for a period of time. It makes a beep sound like a smoke detector, and everything crashes....the beep sound keeps on sounding until i press the power button. I checked the event viewer this is the message i got "The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block." Does anyone know how i can fix this problem?

My computer specs are:
Window XP Pro
AMD athon XP 2500+
Soyo KT600 platium
1GB 3200 400 GHZ DDR
120 GB Maxtor 7200 8mb(partitioned (D:local drive) C: and Z)

If you guys need to know more specs please let me know....please help me thanks in advance.

Run chkdsk /f /r on the harddrive.

START > RUN > Type CMD
At the DOS prompt type chkdsk /f /r
It will ask you to run next time you reboot. Say yes and reboot
You'll see chkdsk repairing your hard drive before windows loads. Depending on the problems it can take 5-20 minutes.

I once brought a 120 GB Maxtor 7200 8mb, and from straight out of the box it crashed just like yours did. It wasen't when using a specific program or anything it just crashed. I never trusted Maxtor again, so I went and brought a Seagate 120GB 7200. But a month later I heard that Seagate brought out Maxtor so if there was to be a change in the making of these drives they should be good.

I think i know what the problem is now....i checked the temperature in the bios i got a report of 75 degrees for the cpu, and my motherboard was set to shutdown at 80 degrees. But when i checked the temperature with SiSoftware Sandra i only got a report of 45 degrees hmmm...... Well, i don't think its the HD anymore. Can someone recommend me a good cpu heat sink or an alternative way to cool down my cpu/pc. Thanks in advance.

If you can hold out for a about a week or so, Thermalright is going to be coming out with a 120mm Aluminum heatsink
