Could use some help diagnosing a problem that arose for my system.
My system locked up while running a game today. Its rarely if ever happened. Had to power cycle the computer to get it to come back up. When the system was booting, I noticed these green lines on the screen. When the computer came back up I was in VGA mode and it didn't recognize the video card.
I attempted to fix that be checking the driver and device manager, however it was giving me a Code 43 error. At this point I assumed the graphics card had some type of failure.
First thing I did was to reseat the card. After reseating the card, I was never able to generate any video output what so ever. The monitor would immediately go into power save mode. The video card fan would spin, as would the rest of the case fans, I heard drive spinning, but no video was output. Also I don't hear the beeps you get when the motherboard has an issue.
This was odd, but I chalked it up to the video card just completely dying. I obtained an older PCI Express video card and when I put that one into the system, that video card would not generate any video output either. The monitor immediately goes into power save mode upon connection and I never even see the motherboard post.
I wanted to verify that the original video card had a problem. So I installed it into another system, and that system verified the same symptoms I saw originally. In VGA mode, Code 43 error in device manager, and green lines during post/bootup. That tells me my video card is broken.
However, it appears that something else is broken as well. Sounds like a motherboard issue, because I know the older PCI Express video cards I tested work. I haven't had a motherboard fail in quite some time, so I'm unsure how to diagnose a problem when you don't have video output.
In addition any other thoughts of what might be causing the problem?
