Hey. I am wanting to buy a computer for 4000, obviously for high end gaming.

Price range is anywhere from like 3700-4200. I do not need a monitor. I would like liquid cooling, and a 64bit-OS. I've configured multiple times, but I'd like to get your guys input before I go out there and buy it. I really only need like a single 8800GT/9600GT in this setup because I will be buying the new Nvidia cards in July (the card I have in the new rig will be sold to my friend when the new cards are released.) 4GB DDR3 and a 790i mobo are in this set up, and I'd like a powerful PSU for quad-sli of the new cards in addition to a high end quad core processor.

Thank you so much in advance!

1. What YOUR PC will be used for.
<A. High end gaming.

2. What is YOUR budget.
<<A. As stated before, 3700-4200 (no monitor)

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
<<A. USA (newegg)

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
<<A.
CPU: Intel
Graphics: nVidia
Harddisk: Any
Motherboard : Any

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
<<A. No

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
<<A. Countless times.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
<<A. Overclocking (to a safe extent- as long as the processor will live for more than 3 years)

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
<<A. As soon as possible

Forgot to mention one thing. All the parts don't HAVE to be off newegg necessarily, if that makes any difference. Again, ty in advance.

Uh, there isn't much to say other than spending half now and spending half later for a better performing machine.
You do realize Tri/Quad SLi doesn't necessarily give the best performance.

With that budget, might as well get 8GB of memory.
Corsair HX1000W I guess for the power supply.
Q9450 is probably the CPU you want.

Oh if only laptops where upgradeable in any meaningful way. (NEVER get a gaming laptop if you can use a desktop instead.)

My advice is to look up the bench marks for all the various CPU's/GPU's that you would be interested in. The small increase in performance may not be worth it when you hit the top of what's on todays market, quad SLI for example does NOT mean you get 4x the power of one card.

If you're new building and tweaking your own computer I advise against going straight for over clocking. Build in the ability to over clock your rig but hold off on the water cooling until you are comfortable with it all. You may decide you just don't need it.

Oh and plan ahead, try and future proof your machine for about 3 years, this is where you can make better use of your money. Instead of paying top dollar for multiple GPU's which will most likely (or almost) made obsolete with the next generation of GPU's which so few games currently make full use of it's hardly worth it, a better idea is to get a single GPU (probably still want top of the line currently available) and replace it when you begin to see games outstripping your rig. I'll have to do some more research on CPU's to make a meaningful comment, just compare the power to the price and see if it's worth it.

I am behind on the times, it's been a while since I built my own desktop rig and after one mobo/gpu crapping out on me and putting a screw driver through another mobo I have avoided OCing (accidents not OC related).

If you are still serious about building a ultra top of the line rig, do some research for your own sake (so you know what the hell your doing) and come back with a "alpha" build of your rig and ask where improvements can be made.

-edit- By "future proof" I mean you only need to swap out one thing at a time. A example of NOT future proofing which I did was to not wait for the AM2 socket CPU's to come out and went with socket 939 which means it's a b**** to find compatible CPU's for my mobo, I also can not make use of newer CPU's.

Just to elaborate on this, spending $4000 on a PC doesn't net you much in the way of gaming performance over spending $2000. If you spend $2000 now and $2000 on a new system in two years, you'll be much better off down the road.

(As an example, the computer I spent $1000 on this winter kicks the ass of my older machine that I spent close to $2000 on four years ago. Computer parts depreciate quickly.)

AFAIC it is just a ""game"".

Once you pass $1800 there is No real value in anything done, it is just for the sake of being ostentatious.

Overall Human Reaction time in average of 250msec. with SD of 50.

In fast young people it might e 200msec with SD30.

The so call improvement in most fancy systems falls bellow this number.
