Hello, I'm thinking about building a computer for the first time. I'm not entirely sure what to get though, I could use some help.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

I will use it mostly for playing WoW: Wotlk, TF2, and general use.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

About 700ish, cheaper would be nice.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

I have been leaning towards a nVidia, but nothing is set in stone.
I've also been looking at an e8400.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

I have nothing right now. I need to get an OS and a Monitor. Though the monitor shouldn't be included in the above budget.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

I have read through a couple threads the last few days.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

I'll be using the default speeds.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

In a few weeks.

Thanks for any help.

Hey there, welcome to the forums! I am shamelessly copy and pasting this from some advice I gave to another member but here is my input!

Psu + Video card (9800gt) = $154
e8400 + Asus P5Q PRo= 250
4gb Gskill memory = $45 or you can get get something for ~25 with rebates
Hard Drive = $54

This equals about $500 which leaves you $100 for the OS and then $100 for a case and burner of your choosing, and you can even get away with spending $30-40 on a rosewell case and $20 on a burner and be under budget. Good Luck!

This is essentially what I plan to be buying pretty soon to replace the pile of poop that I'm posting this reply from.

No problem. I made the suggestions I did because you said you weren't overclocking, so I would be hesitant to use anything under 3.0ghz and if you ever decide to do the e8400 would be awesome. However, if you plan on overclocking right away, or would consider it, I would replace the e8400 and p5q pro for an e7300 and p5q se ($200 combo) and then get a 260gtx or ati 4850. Some people might disagree, but that is jut me Good luck.
