I'm having a major problem with my system. Yesterday morning, I shut it down (or so I thought). When my wife went to use it, the signal was off for the monitor, but the power light, DVD drive light, and hard drive lights were all solidly on, as were the fans. She pushed the power button to restart the system, and it behaved... until I got home from work. I attempted to shut down the system, and once again, it half shut down. It then steadfastly refused to reboot. I had to shut the power supply off and on, at which time the computer went into half-shut down mode (power, DVD, hard drive lights and fans all on). After holding down the power button for a few seconds, the computer decided to boot.
Almost. It would sometimes boot into Vista, and then restart, and on each subsequent restart, it would reboot itself earlier and earlier in the process, getting to the point when it would reboot before ever hitting the BIOS screen. I finally removed the CMOS battery on a whim, and it restarted and worked for about 10 minutes before starting the rebooting cycle again.
I did notice that whenever the computer successfully made it into Vista, it would re-install the USB ports.
My question is: Is my motherboard dying?
My specs:
Gigabyte 965P-DS3 Rev 1.
Intel Q6700 (not overclocked)
Corsair 620 Power supply
4G Mushkin Memory
EVGA 8800GT w/ Accelero S1
2 320G SATA Hard drives
2 Hauppauge 1600 tuners
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
