computer freezes when it's not on the network

I just built a computer for my sister, and it works perfectly fine when it's plugged into the college network. It can be on for days at a time and nothing will go wrong. When she unplugs it from the network and uses it at home, it freezes after 5 minutes. I have a feeling i need to make a different hardware profile, one where the networking is disabled. I dont know how to do this though. I'd appreciate any help

here are the specs:
AMD 1700 XP (always around 45C)
Abit AT7 mobo (onboard sound, and Ethernet)
Radeon 7500
256 Megs of PC 2100
Windows 2000, SP2

Does she have anything trying to get access to the network?

Sounds like you have a network drive mapped in My Computer.

Yep! It's looking for that old network handshake and panics when it can't find it. A network-free configuration should fix it.

You can also Setup HARDWARE PROFILES for each location.
Much easier than disabling/re-enabling hardware.

What OS is she running...there is a glitch in the Clock in WinXP...it is set to always confirm the time with an internet Server...this usually only causes time lapses, but has been known to do some other things like this. Open up the clock setting and on the tab maked Internet Time, uncheck the check for it to confirm the time.
