Computer freezing constantly

Recently, my computer has done a couple self-restarts and this evening I've been experiencing a lot of lock-ups. It started happening while I was playing Counter-Strike. Screen would go black, monitor light would go amber, keyboard would lock-up. Each time I restart, it seems to get a little worse. It eventually gets to the point where the computer goes black and locks up while Windows XP was loading or even before it can load . If I turn the computer off for a while, it seems to run fine once I start it back up.

Just some specs:

Athlon XP 1600+
512 MB PC2100 Crucial
GF4 Ti4200
Epox 8KHA mobo
40GB Seagate hard drive
350w Enermax power supply
Modded Case, only 2 case fans
Running WinXP

System temps seem ok. At first I though perhaps the video card was crappin out or overheating, but why would the keyboard lock up. Also checked power management settings on both CMOS and Windows to make sure the computer wasn't going on standby and locking up.

Any suggestions on whats going on??

Is my power supply perhaps too low in wattage? RAM sticks going bad? Any advice is appreciated at this point.

I'd run some memtest to see if your RAM is the problem.

hi,
definitely run memtest86 or docmemory and check the ram. also, do you get and error messages in your event viewer?
if both of those are clear, this could also be your power supply going south or your video card. do you have any of these parts that you could swap out for testing?

what's your CPU temp at? It sounds a LOT like overheating...

I agree. Also, if a vid card is over heating (mine overheats and I need a new on ) It will freeze the entire computer. Also, check for dust, if you have had a computer for a while, dust will collect and needs to be blown out about once every 6-12 months. Doing it more often is not needed but can help.
