Ok. This has been about a month long process almost.
Right before Thanksgiving.. I got home from work, and my computer would not turn on. I got nothing. Automatically, I assume that the powersupply has gone out. So I got another powersupply that I had and tried it. Same thing. Computer wouldn't make a sound. I test both PSUs in another computer and they both work fine.
So I believed it was the mobo. So I RMAd the motherboard, and when I got it back.. Everything would start up. The fans and stuff.. but I got no video signal and no beep codes.
Here is where I will explain everything into detail.
First.. The DVD drive. When I plug the power into the DVD drive.. and turn on the computer.. it lights up and will open and close. As soon as I hook the DVD drive into the motherboard (via IDE).. It doesn't power on or anything. Can't get it to open. So I am not sure whats going on there, but it wouldn't power on if it was connected to the motherboard. I tried 2 different cables. It didn't matter if the cable was plugged into the DVD drive.. just only if the other side of it was plugged into the motherboard.
Now to the HDD. It spins up.. but I wasn't sure if it worked. I plugged it into my other computer and it spins up as well.. but is NOT recognized in the BIOS or Windows. I tried putting it in place of the other SATA drive, and still.. Same thing. Not found. But it DOES spin up.
Now that covers those 2 things. I am not worried about the DVD drive. I will buy a new one if I have to. The HDD I will RMA if its messed up too. But I want to wait before I do that.
Now back to the motherboard. There are NO lights on the motherboard with power plugged into it. Before when the computer was running great.. There was always a red light on the mobo. Even if it was off. Now there are no lights. I turn it on, and I get no video signal and no beep codes. No lights come on when I turn the computer on either.
So with a new motherboard.. it led me to believe it was the CPU. I tried different pieces of ram.. taking it out of the case and putting it on a piece of cardboard.. all those things.. nothing changed. Biostar told me that usually if there are no beeps or anything.. its a short or CPU/Mobo.
Either way... Biostar actually has paid to have the mobo shipped back and they will RMA it again. Which is awesome. They have great customer service. And I have RMAd the CPU with AMD. I shipped both of those things out today so they won't get them till next week. I know it will be a whlie before I get them back because of holidays and things.
Does anyone have any idea on what could be wrong that I am missing? Does this sound right about the CPU being the issue now? I am glad Biostar has decided to RMA the board again.. I want to make sure I have a good working mobo and cpu for sure.. then I can narrow it down from there if it still continues. If the PC works then.. and the HDD doesn't work.. then I will just RMA it.. but also gonna buy another harddrive for backup as well around that time.
I am hoping to have it running sometime in January. Just built the computer in June.. and worked flawlessly till then. Its like every freakin component in the computer went out.
