Computer Has Crashed

Today ... while playing NHL 2003 with my roommate my computer just suddenly rebooted. I thought "Hey well that was weird", and let Windows XP try and boot again. But it doesnt exactly boot anymore. It says that Windows has been shutdown so not to cause any damage to my computer and says PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA and then a bunch of stupid crap on how to fix it that is not relavent.
I try and reinstall XP and it gives the same errors and says it can't copy files to the hard drive (like win32.dll etc.). Any Thoughts? (Ive Formatted twice to no avail)
Is my hard drive !@#$ed? or is it something else?

Ive converted from NTFS to FAT32 and it still gives the same error.

Ive successfully installed Windows 98 SE, but it crashes once and a while and is running very slow.
I think the problem now might have been a virus because my other hard drive seems to have corrupt data on it too..

might want to make sure all your fans are spinning and nothings overheating... also, your not overclocking right?

hows that gonna help on a system that cant even run win98?


its probably a hardware issue... after checking for heating issues start pulling pieces of hardware and narrow it down.

No OC'ing and all MOBO fans spinning, video card fans spinning, case fan spinning, heatsink and fan spinning.

After checking your hard drive cables, I'd suggest going to the website of your hard drive manufacturer and downloading their diagnostic utilities (most have them that you can make a bootable floppy from). Check out the hard drive with that; if it's not the hard drive, the other thing that comes to mind immediately for me might be RAM or PSU. If you have spares, you might want to consider swapping them in.

Had this problem about 3 months ago with a co-workers w/98 machine, after about 4 hours of go thru microsofts error codes and tracking them down it wound up being the RAM. Find out later that co-workers son had tried plugging in his printer bent the pins and then forced them in anyway while machine was running . Opps! Hope this helps you out

If it is bad RAM would it allow me to install Windows 98?
what would cause this bad ram, my machine hasnt been touched at all since I got to school .. could a virus have caused it?

Yes .. it looks to be a ram problem ..
500000 errors and counting ..
what would have caused this that wasnt physical damage?
