I recenlty had to reinstall Windows on a friends computer that I built for him due to internet problems. I had Windows 98SE on their before and I decided to try Windows 2000 this time since I had it. Unfortunatly their old version of Quicken doesnt work with Windows 2000 so I had to switch it back to 98. Everything was going fine untill I started installing software. I now notice that booting up takes forever. The blue Windows screen comes up, but after that it goes to an all black screen with a blinking white line in the top left corner. I have seen many computers do this for a second or two and then go to the desktop. But his computer does it for 4 to 5 minutes before it finishes booting up. I installed the Windows 98 update that fixes shutdown hanging and that helped for the shutting down problems, but did nothing for booting up. Can someone please help me? If I dont fix this I seriously doubt if they will ever recommend me to anyone for building computers. Thanks, guys.
