Computer is dead?

okay, i turned off my power supply as i as was ready to install my brand new DVD Burner, then i realized thre was a CD still in the drive i was replacing so i go to turn the power supply and PC back and when i flip the switch on the PSU and nothing happens... i check to make sure the outlet was still live, it is. i check all plugs, they were pluged in. i'm running out of ideas... my guess is that i killed the PSU some how but i can't check if the PC is still alive... can anybody help me? and hurry, i'm in my next door neighbor's basement using his 486 and keyboard whose keys won't repond very well

remove that new dvd burner and try again. And, as a note for future posts, always include system specs...

The computer isn't supposed to start when you flip the switch on the PSU to the On position. Push the case's power button (sorry if that's a "well duh I already tried that" suggestion ).

i never got the burner in cause i never got the CD out

9600 pro

i think i broke the switch in the off position or the PSU for some unkown reason died... but any bother opinons would be VASTLY appreciated

yes, it is one of those questions... i built my baby, i think i can figure out that much... but thank you for the input... at least we're thinking!

Well, to start with, just go through the computer and patiently double-check all the different connections and make sure your memory, video card and other cards are all still properly seated. Since the computer seems to not respond to the case's front power button, find its wire and make sure it's still actually plugged onto the motherboard's header. If you know the brand and model of your motherboard, please tell us that too.

it's an Asus... and i checked that... the little green light on the Mobo won't light so i think the PSU or mobo is the culprit and i don't think a mobo would fry because of that but a PSU might if it's being sensative... or maybe the switch broke but i can't tell

Look at the bright side: power supplies are relatively affordable, they don't really depreciate in value much, and they're a snap to replace Grab an Antec SL350 from your local store and see if you're back online. Good luck!

Did ya try checking it in a different outlet? My old puter used to be fickle and after I turned it off, it wouldn't start up for whatever reason until i used a different outlet.

I sure hope you people are not plugging your systems directly into the wall outlet. That is the death knell for your power supply and then everything else.

Nah, it was on the power strip. For some strange reason I would have to use a different outlet on the thing every once in a while to get it to boot. I came to the conclusion it was probably the PSU.
