Hey guys,
i was watching a movie on my computer the other day and it just crashed/turned off. i orignally thought the power had gone out but the lights were still on. Now everytime i try to turn on my computer, the fans start spinning, the led lights come on and then it crashes and the power button won't work after that.
I couldn't get it to work at all and then at one point in passing i randomly pushed the power button to see if it works and it turned on for a brief time before crashing again.

Apparently i have the "instant ff" problem, (which i don't fully understand).
I made sure that all my components were plugged in properly, but it still continues to crash. I managed to play COD4 for a while but then it crashed and i am unable to turn it on again.

Computer Specs:

XFX Mobo 780i, XFX 9800GX2, 4 GB Ram, 650/750w PSU (Not sure sorry)

Has anyone had this problem or knows of a solution? I only pray the my Mobo or PSU is fked.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

When a system out right shuts off like that its a PSU problem. Either the system is too much form the PSU or the PSU has died. I just hope the PSU hasn't damaged anything else in the system. So don't try to start the system again till you get a new PSU. It would help to know what PSU it is. That way we can give you ideas on your best course of action. Be it RMAing the unit or out right replace it.

When you say "crash" what exactly happens (just powers off\blue screen\freeze\etc)?

When you cant get it to power on, unplug the PS for 10-15 seconds then plug it back in and try the power button again. Let us know what happens.

Where did you get this "instant FF" thing?

When i say crash, i mean the whole computer shuts off, like when you have a black out. There are still lights on my mobo, but i'm unable to turn it back on.
I've tried everything with the the power cord, i've left it out a lot longer than 10-15 seconds aswell and it seems its pretty random when it decideds to turn on.

Lastly, my mate who has been trying to help me fix it, thought it might be "instant ff",
Check it out here

So your motherboard has an onbourd post analizer that is throwing up an instant FF code on the little LED readout?

That is a boot problem with the motherboard not the system randomly cutting out like a power outage.

Once again its the PSU. Do not continue to turn the system on till you get an adiquate replacment or known working PSU to test the syste with. Borrow your friends PSU if it can handle your system and see how your system runs with it. If all is well then you know your PSU ios going bad and you need a new one.

No, my friend had encountered this problem before and said that its the instant ff problem.

Also, we tried fixing it the other night and we've switched it on/off numerous times, is that really bad?

IF the problem is a bad PSU then you only stand to cause more problems with continued use of that PSU.

I tried to turn my computer on tonight to see if it would work and it did. I watched the led light and it flickered through a bunch of numbers and stopped on C7. On the screen it said, "Warning, sytem now in safe mode. Please reset CMOS and memory frequency" (or something very similar), so i went into the bios and reset all the settings to default.

The computer then booted and now i get the "ff" warning on the led light. My computer has been running for a good 30 minutes so far but no doubt it will die again soon. So what do i do about this "ff" error on the led light readout?

Thanks once again for your assistance.
