Computer keeps dying, PSU or mobo issue?

A new PSU "fixed" it for me but it only lasted for ~3 weeks.

I'm having a similar issue. Started a month ago where my PC would hang when left idling (hibernate OFF, screen shut off after 20 minutes). Tested the RAM and passed easily. Formatted my PC and still have this issue but since I formatted, 3 weeks ago, my PC shutdown twice by itself.

The Power management is set to Performance, not Normal, still no hibernate. Still freeze from time to time but less often. Never hang/freeze while under load.

I have the Corsair TX750 (the first version) since 2009 so it's hard to put the fault on the PSU...but could be.

I'm tempted to replace my unit and see how it goes. I did a similar check like you did and replaced the power strip but didn't do any good.

Based on the fact a new PSU "fixed" the prob for 3 weeks I believe this rules out the MB. The bad socket probably damaged the new PSU over time and your problems started again. I would contact the manufacture and see if you can get an RMA after full disclosure of your problem. If not, buy another PSU.

The halted power button causes this issue. You press it, the PC turns on but after a while turns off, the button may become detached again after you release it, but the electrical switch inside it remains pressed. Working with PSUs...etc might cause moving of case and cables inside and temporarily unlock the button, but it became stuck back after a while again.
Disconnect the button cable from the board and just short the contacts with screwdriver. If the issue stop than you have to replace the switch, which can be accessible when you remove front panel of your case.
