When I restart it's changes to 1.1ghz and it works fine accept when i play games it's very laggy. Can anyone help me figure out why my comp is over heating? or why it thinks its being overclocked?

Asus av3777 mobo
1024 Crucial Ram

Welcome to the Forums Please check your Asus model number again, I don't think they make one called an AV3777. Also, an AthlonXP 3200+ isn't designed to run at 2.4GHz, it should be running at 2.20GHz if you want stock clockspeed.

Thats what I thought.

How hot is it getting? What says it's overclocked?

Uhh, there isn't an Asus AV3777 motherboard, can you look at the mobo and get a correct ID off of it? Like this, except not.

Ok, start with the simple stuff.

1) Is the heatsink's fan plugged in, and does the heatsink's fan run

2) Is the heatsink free of any significant buildup of dust

3) Is the heatsink itself clipped onto the socket in this direction

Once those are out of the way, I have some more.

I have the same mobo and first off let me tell you that the "Motherboard failed due to Cpu Overclocking" is a generic error. BIOS always says this when the computer shuts down for stability reasons. It ASSUMES you overclocked. It's a mobo specifically designed for overclocking and one of it's features is that if it locks up due to overclocking it resets back to a safe frequency so you can try again.

You haven't mentioned what the temperature is. Have you checked it? Asus provides you with a temperature monitor program - it's on the CD that came with the mobo, or you can download it from their web site.

I would suggest taking off the case cover for awhile, and installing motherboard monitor to check cpu temps. It may be a case of your heatsink/fan not being powerful enough. You could pickup a thermaltake silent boost k8 or one of them nifty setups with the heatpipes, and that should go a long way in resolving any heating issues. Also, you'll want to go in to your BIOS and set everything back to run at least at stock speeds, since I am pretty sure 1.1GHz is not even close to stock for your setup.
