computer problem need help.

i have a MSI K7T266 Pro with an athlon XP 1800 and 256mb of ram.

i took it apart to test another system in its case and when i put it back in it didnt work so i did the normal stuff reseated everything tried the minimum stuff. and none of that worked.

what happens is when i boot it detects the CPU and the RAM and then gets stuck at wait for around 30 seconds or so and the DLED thing says red green green green which in the manual says "boot attempt - this will set low stack and boot via INT 19h" then it beeps 2 times then pause then beeps again and the DLED changes to red red green green which in the manual says "initializing hard drive controller -This will initialize IDE drive and controller" and it says on the monitor

Sec Master Drive - ATAPI Incompatible
Sec Slave Drive - ATAPI Incompatible
Press F1 to resume_

but the thing is i have no hard drives or cdroms hooked up.
and when i do hook up a HD with win2000 on it it does the same thing.

Sorry you're having problems BigFatCow,

Here's what I do when I'm having general "cmos" issues:

- CMOS setup - "reset to defaut" settings, usually one for stability and one for performance, try either

- try hooking your drives up as "cable-select" instead of "master/slave"?

- pull that little battery out of your mobo, let sit for a moment, and pop it back in (if you don't see a "clear cmos" jumper on the mobo

good luck, these are things to try while others come up with solutions

yeah, I would try resetting cmos
If you hook up a drive can you get into cmos setup and see if it is detected?
