Hum.. Sorry about the title.. I know its vague, but I wasn?t sure how to title it..

Ok. Here it is..

We had a power failure two days ago.. It of course shut our computers down. Upon restarting my wife?s computer.. Here is what happens..

Everything looks and seems ok at first.. But I cant seem to open any folders on the desktop after maybe 10 seconds.. They just flicker.. If I try to run a .exe it does the same. which means no programs will run.

About half the time the taskbar will freeze up and stays locked and doesn?t pop up.

Also it appears the my virus program has been unloaded. I use Bitdefender v10 with definitions updated just a day ago.

All this happens but I can still see and move the mouse arrow.

It only does these things in regular mode.. In safe mode it seems fine.

I booted in safe mode with networking.. I then used my computer to run a virus check over the network and it found no problems. I ran a Trend micro online check and got halfway done and crashed.. several times!! Errr..

I thought maybe something got corrupted.. so I did an error check on reboot. That made it run ok long enough for me to run adaware and spybot.. but they were clean.. Then it started it stuff again.

I know Bitdefender didn?t find anything.. But I guess there could still be a virus..

Since this happen right after the power outage shut the computer down.. Could there be something corrupt doing this?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I just reinstalled windows in June. If a power outage causes in to have to be done again.. then computers are useless. Grrr.. If only it were really alive so I could kill it!..

The memory may be bad to.. but it tested ok in June. hopefully its stll ok.. Im doing various checks as I get around to it. Its just been a busy weekend.

Thanks for the replys.

Windows was corrupted by the improper shutdown. I may be Windows files or driver files for hardware. Do a repair install of Windows (you won't have to re-install your apps then). If this does not fix everthing, then try un-installing and re-installing your driver sets.

Buy a quality UPS with auto shutdown and you won't run into this anymore.
