Computer Reboots Itself

As of late my computer has been rebooting itself inside Rogue Spear. Just about 5 minutes ago, i logged on and started to play the game. Within 2 games it just rebooted itself. So i went back in thinking everything was ok, 1 game later it did it again. And now i'm here searching for an answer to this strange event. I've got a Duron 750, VooDoo 4 4500, SB Lice Value. I at first thought it was overheating but in the BIOS it said the cpu temp was 40 C the first time and 39 C the second. I'm running 98 SE, but i also had the same problem in 98. I've got the newest drivers for my V-card, and my mobo with the VIA 4in1 4.31 drivers. Don't have the newest live ware 3.0 installed, takes forever to boot up with it. So if anyone knows what it is let me know, if any suggestions let me know, I'll be on most of the night checking back regurlaly. Just another piece of info, it doesn't do it when messing around on the net and all that other stuff. Not sure about any other games or anything but i Think Moto2 runs perfectly fine without the reboot.

Anotehr piece of info i forgot, i've got an Epox 8KTA+ mobo. Thanks

I had a problem with a dial up connection like this. Using IE 5.0 and 98SE it wanted to reboot. I moved my modem to a different pci slot and the problem stopped.

The problem could be that your graphics card is overheating rather than your CPU. Is your Voodoo overclocked? If so have you tried running it at its default speed.

No i don't have the V-card overclocked. I have a case fan blowing right on the video card and it itself has a fan on the chip. So don't think its the v-card. I did have my processor overclocked to 800. Put it back down last night and played for a few hours without a problem. The thing is it isn't over heating the cpu so not sure why it keeps rebooting itself. Would it be the voltage is to high when over clocked like that?

It sounds to me like you have a power supply that isnt up to par. When the system is stressed it draws more power. If your power supply is at its max and you push it farther, rebooting or locking up is likely to happen. You might want to look into a good AMD certified 350 or 400 watt power supply. Antec makes an inexpensive 400 watt item. Just a thought.

that might be it, cause its only a 250 that came with the case. I'll look into getting a higher one, in the 300 or 350

I agree with tlemmon, I had this problem when I had a 250watt power supply.... Bought a 300watt ps and it was fixed immediately.

How much RAM do you have? When my computer was randomly rebooting it was because I didn't have enough RAM and I was running out of resources, causeing a reboot. I was running win2k though, which is more memory intensive. After I upgraded my ammount of RAM the problem went away.

Are you OCing that Duron? Random reboots on OCing is common, especially with a weak PS.

Yes i plan on overclocking it. Not sure to how much but i do intend on doing it. Right now i've only got 128 ram but planning on getting a 256 stick pretty soon. Gonna be a bit because i'm a broke ass college student, LMAO. But i do plan on getting more. I don't intend on overclocking the cpu to much and by that i mean 50-100 mhz. Its a 750 and the mobo supports up to 1.1 so i know the board can take it. I also plan on getting a better heatsink and fan when i OC it. Its gonna take some time for my broke a** to accumilate some cash.

datalink7 - He's running win98SE, lol. BTW- you can change the default behavior of w2k so you get a blue screen instead of a reboot.

Has anyone on here tried the new 4in1 4.31 drivers from via?? Cause I never really had a problem with the 4.30 but when the 4.31 was installed thats when i seem to get this problem. The rebooting has started in the past 2 weeks and i've been playing games and doing everything since my last reformat(3 months ago) It just seems really weird to do it all the sudden.

Thats what i figured. Besides the 750, i'm running 3 HD's, SB live, Voodoo 4 4500, 2 network cards, a case fan and the cdrom.
