my computer is having problems lately. I think it's my powersupply. I don't think it have enough power for my drives, cards...Here's is what I have.

XP 1900+, 1024MB DDR, GeForce3 TI 500, USR 56k hardware modem, 10/100 3COM, SBlive5.1 Platnium,Pinnacle TV-Tuner, Adaptec 7xxx Raid with 64MB cache, 3 Quamtum 10k RPM running in raid 0, one Seagte 10k rpm, 3 80GB maxtor 5400RPM, TDK 24X burner, 16x DVD-Rom Pioneer, and 56X cd-rom. And i have 431 watts PS from Enermax. DO you think i need a better power supply because my computer kept on restarting ever since i added the 80GB.

Oh yeah, forgot about the fans,
2 120mm fans from YS Tech, 1 92mm, 1 60mm delta, 4 80mm YS Tech, and 1 Digital DOC 5 to control the fans

Thanx

A better PS? You already have an Enermax 431w..... I dont think that is your problem... (Unless its faulty) Ive seen systems using that PS with more than you got, i dunno...

i know it's a good PS but i think i need more wattage. When i take my Geforce3 out and put a 64MX in it would work. The gefore3 video card is good because i just got it.

if your computer is restarting as it's running... then one thing it could be is... the auto reboot option... check out system properties/startup and recovery/ and uncheck the auto restart option... i don't know about XP but that's something that i noticed in win2k cuz i was having that problem.

by the way.. does anyone know what's going on whenever i try to turn on my computer initially and the lights come on for like 2 seconds but then everything turns back off... it'll do that like 3-5 times or so and then start running after i push the button multiple times.... it's been goin on like that for about a month now... also.. around the same time it started to make this groaning noise whenever i would start up... i don't know what it is... i'm guessing it might be the power supply.

It could be your power supply, but it could also be your electrical outlet. Are you using a ups, or a good surge protector? Many of them have indicators that show faulty electrical systems.

here's a link my my system. It's by the corner.

I have this system connected to a 900 AVR UPS

When i uncheck the reboot option, my computer would freeze instead of rebooting.

first, since you're obviously spending a lot of money on the system, I'd replace those drives with fewer, larger ones.

anyways, check out your RAM. Random restarts can be caused by bad memory. Also, check the temperature on the CPU... is it well cooled?

can't afford larger scsi driver. PLus, those drives are in raid 0. The scsi drives, not the ide

<< it's running at 69 Degree F right now with room temperature of 77 F >>

What kind of water cooling are you using? You didn't list that in your computer parts.

Or maybe you gave temperatures that are unrealistic.

I'd look at this after you figure out your CPU temperature problem. Put the GeForce3 in another computer and see if it crashes.

Well the one way to tell is to pull a few things, if the rebooting stops you'll know your psu isn't beefy enough,if it doesn't you'll know your power from the wall or the PSU itself has issues.

hmm. is the motherboard using a via chipset? random reboots could be that infinite loop bug..

I won't pull any of my drives out. But i will hook my drives up to an AT PS.

Good idea

It is not good because you just got it. I have had new stuff be bad before. Put it in another machine and see if it exhibits the same problems. If it does then you have found the culprit.

If you only use air cooling, the coldest possible temperature that you could obtain is the room temperature (77°F). If your CPU does anything it will heat up - thus it must be hotter than 77°F. Some really good fans might get it close to room temperature, but it always be slightly hotter than the room. The CPU thermal sensors aren't too accurate, but 69°F is at least 10°F below what the CPU temperature actually is. This might mean nothing - or it might mean that your CPU is overheating without you or your computer knowing it.

the PS is not new, using it since last year, and i think Dullard is right, my cpu censor is busted. I'm using the delta fan with globalwin heatsink. I have a 120mm YS tech blowing the hot air out

Since when has room temperature been 77°F? Last time I checked, room temperature is between 68-70°F. Also, he might keep his computer room colder than room temperature or he might just like his place cold.
