computer restarts every 1 minute!!!

Hello!

yesterday I installed .NET 3.5 to use 2DF

that's the only thing I can think of

today I go to turn it on and it reboots every minute. If I disable automatic restarts I get a blue screen saying to free up HDD space or change back the configuration. I didn't change anything that I know of

so I go to safe mode and it works okay, no reboot problems, so it's not a hardware issue. Then when I leave safe mode the problem comes back. If I boot using "last known working configuration" it works again and will display a "windows recovered from a serious error" window.

BUT.. the problem will come back if I restart without going through the F5 -> boot with last known working configuration procedure...

I guess I can live with this problem without reformatting but it's annoying and I would like to know the cause of this problem.

Plus every time I do the last config setting, my display config changes to a weird rez and refresh rate, so I have to change that constantly too

TIA!

I am on XP.

Thanks again.

Tom.

If you're not short on disk space, per the error message, it could be some kind of malware, virus, etc. I've seen it too often.

One clue would be if your machine is blocked from updating your protection or if it appears to update, but the date of the update doesn't change.

the only thing I installed was the thing on 2dfighter.com which uses .net framework 3.5 and it's a reputable site.

unless that's interfering with my current 'dormant' spyware/malware.

should i try a system restore to yesterday? I tried doing it but it wouldn't open for some reason, maybe I should try it now that the computer is working?

A corrupted/bad driver is a common cause of the problem. System restore might fix that. A corrupted Windows file can do it too. System restore might not fix that. Malware is a suspect if if system restore still doesn't work.

Use msconfig to do a diagnostic startup. This disables almost all drivers. If it works normally, you can turn on a few at a time to see what the problem item is.
