i built this computer about 2 months ago..here are the parts

asus p5w-dh deluxe
intel core 2duo e6600 2.4
ocz ddr2 2x1gb ram pc-6400
xfx 7900gt xtreme
x-fi fatal1ty
antec sp-500
seagate barracuda 7200.10 320gb
lite-on burner
zalman cnps-9500 and zalman vf-7 fatal1ty coolers

this has happened a total o about 10 times over the ccourse of a few weeks. it only reboots randomly while i play bf2. normally after an hr or so of playing, but a few times it happened right after i starte playing the game

i've got the latest drivers for everything

my instinct tells me its the psu? some ppl said its an inferior line for antec, but reviews have been pretty good

ne help would be greatly appreciated

p.s. when i leave the computer on overnight, i find that it freezes. it doesnt completely freeze so that i cant do nething, just my internet stops working and bitcomet is non responsive.

could the 2 problems be related???

i run spybot and zonealarm often so spyware/virus' shouldnt be an issue

I would run memtest on your memory for starters just to make sure that it is not that.

I have had bf2 reboot my system too but I haven't tried it since upgrading.

Do you run anything else which stresses the system, and especially the GPU? Other games (Oblivion, HL2 etc.) for instance?

I usually point my blaiming finger on PSU when computer reboots itself during heavy usage. Blue screen etc and I start to look into memory/CPU issues. But the above poster has a valid guestion, does this happen on any other applications aswell?

Try another intensive game. Oblivion, Half-Life 2, something like that. Your normal use is not particularly stressful for your rig.

I suspect either your memory or your graphics card is defective, most probably the graphics card. If you get the same problems with another stressful game, you can rule out a software error.

BF2 is so messed up it could be the program itself that's causing it, but you can't be sure until you try another game or something GPU intensive. If you need a free one go try out America's Army.

I wouldn't to to determined of the cause until you do a little more diagnosis...

Computers just don't reboot randomly without a reason that can't be determined. In my sig there is a link to a basic guide to disabling automatic restarting, and a link to DCLive's guide to further determine the cause. As it sounds, you're problem could be overheating, bad bios mem settings, bad driver, bad psu; in addition to any number of known/unknown bugs in your software.

thanx nocturne...

so after i turn off the automatic restart....it will instead go to BSOD right? if so, i should write down the exact #'s n stuff that pop up then find out what they are?

If it is a proper windows crash you will get a BSOD. If it doesn't give you a BSOD the problem is either overheating or defective hardware (likely psu). If you get a bsod and the error it gives doesn't help, you can debug the dump file for more info (see dclive's guide in my sig).
