Computer shuts off instantly. Then, it turns on and works fine after that.

Hello,

I built a computer and I am noticing that when I plug it into an outlet, flip the PSU switch on, and press the power button on my case the following happens:

First, my computer turns on for a split second. Then, it will immediately shut off and automatically turn itself on and be fine after that.

If I shut it off and turn it back on again using the computer case power button, there is no issue.

But, when I flip my PSU switch off and wait a few seconds before flipping it on and trying again, the issue repeats itself.

Another thing is that my GPU has two lights on it to indicate that the cables are plugged into it and it is receiving power. When I flip my PSU switch off, it takes several seconds for those lights to shut off. I was wondering if that was normal.

That's all normal behavior. The capacitors take a few seconds for the power to drain on the GPU, and when you remove your PC from power (or do the other things you mention) it will do a self-test type thing, and then actually go to boot.

My PCs (with an Asrock and Gigabyte board) do the same thing when I remove them from power, or change a part. It's nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks. That is good to hear. My previous PC never did that, so I was worried that something was wrong with it.

I think nearly every Intel chipset since the P35 back in the Core 2 days had the double-post after wall power was removed from the PSU. Not really sure why it does it, something about "chipset strap settings"?
