Computer stopped under stress

I have an Asus p5e MB with a q9450 processor. I was running OCCT when the computer stopped(had been running for an hour). The power light flashes quickly if I try to restart but there are no beeps and nothing else happens. The display is never activated.

Did I kill my CPU or MB? Anyone know what the blinking power light signifies? I have another computer I could test the CPU in but it is a pain to take out and reinstall the TRUE in a Antec P182. I tried tripping the CMOS with no effect. I was running 425 FSB and the CPU voltage at 1.3, memory at 2.1V with everything else on auto. My temps were around 60C stressed.

It sounds to me as if either your motherboard or power supply died on you. Sorry, man.

IMPO&E - i've seen my old A8R32 board become unstable after using OCCT. I'm not sold on the board aging, or anything like that cause on my new machine, i've ran it, and noticed some quirky things immediately after running it. Someone was telling me it may be from other apps causing the sluggishness after running it like anti V, etc. but always before I run a test like that, I minimize the number of apps I have running to rule out any bad software and things of that nature. So this is why I am feeling OCCT is a little suspect.

This is a new build and the power supply is an Ultima 1000. I've tried swapping power supply, memory, and video card and nothing happens. I guess it is between the CPU and MB now.

My older Seasonic power supply does not give the fast blinking power light like the Ultima does but it still does not post. I really hate taking my E8400 out of my other computer but to be sure I guess this is what I need to do. I wonder if leaving most of my voltage settings in the P5E set to auto caused too much power to something?

I put the 9450 into my 8400 machine and it still works fine. The only thing left is the MB. I've only had it about 3 weeks so I should be able to RMA it. I really wonder what caused it to die.
Was it too much voltage or OCCT?

One thing is for sure. I'm not going to stress test with OCCT again(just in case). I don't really see how OCCT would cause harm. When I play Mass Effect, my temps get hotter than they do with OCCT. I'll probably be paranoid overclocking much with the P5e after this.

The only thing left is the MB.

You did a fine troubleshooting job. It's always nice when you have known, good, swappable pieces and parts.

We'll probably never know exactly what happened, and I can't "see" OCCT being the direct culprit, but maybe a marginal MB was pushed over the edge?

I'm thinking so, you are right. Tested with OCCT many times on several boards and never had a prbblem. Matter of fact, I never heard of anyone of having problems with OCCT.

I really think it was a marginal motherboard also. This would have been almost impossible to diagnose without a spare computer with interchangeable parts. My 9450 was in a Lian Li case and everything was easy to get to, but the TRUE in my Antec case was a bit difficult.

Software can't really be the direct cause of a hardware failure, unless its something like ClockGen. OCCT is out of the question then. Definitely was an on-edge motherboard. OCCT simply stresses the components and if they fail they could have failed in everyday circumstances.
