Computer stops with no memory count

Help!!!!

I was installing a new harddrive on an older machine and after I ran through the formatting procedure with Seagates discmanager software I rebooted my machine and it now stops at boot up.

I get a single beep and it displays the processor name (a K62/450) and then stops - no memory count, no error messages nothing.

Ive removed all the ram and tried fitting the modules in different slots all with no effect.
All boards (graphics & NIC) are seated properly, no obvious loose wires etc.

Is this a memory problem, motherboard or what????

AMD K62/450
Biostar M5ALC motherboard
Had 128MB Ram (2 64MB and 1 32MB dimms).

The machine had been working fine before the last reboot.

Unplug the IDE cable from the new hard drive and see if you can get post without it.

Unplug it from the motherboard. I had a bad cable once and unplugged it from the drive. Thing still wouldn't boot because the bad cable was preventing it.

Thanks for the suggestions but I'd already tried them with no success.

But the good news is I have solved it - It was the CMOS somehow must have got screwed coz when I cleared it with the mboard jumpers and rebooted everything started without problems.

Another lesson to file away for future reference
