hey,

i recently purchased a brand new computer

MOBO - Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
CPU - AMD 64 3500+
RAM - Corsair 1 GB Dual Channel PC3200
VIDCARD - Asus 6800 GT
HD - Western Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM 74.8 GB
O/S - Windows XP Professional

you get the idea....it's blazin fast...it really is quite amazing.

BUT!!!!

When i try to play any games it will freeze. I will be playing....and then all of sudden the graphics will stop...although i can stilll hear sound. The screen then goes black, almost as if the monitor was turning off and i can still hear sound. Then i get mad and hit the button to make it turn off. I can usually only play for about 30 Seconds and then it will do this....it is extremely annoying!

Can someone please tell me if this is a driver issue? I don't know what to do i am out of ideas, i have updated to this nVIDIA driver...is it the right one? http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.84.html

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED, THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

It sounds like a driver issue, but i've been wrong before. That is the correct driver, although i've heard of people not being able to use the latest gfx drivers (this is in general, not specific to this card). You could try the previous version and see if it makes a difference. Driver archive

I would also Uninstall the current driver before trying to install a new one.

Make sure all of your motherboard chipset drivers are installed. (Windows Update / ASUS site)

Make sure you run driver cleaner before installing any new drivers.

Check your video card temp. to make sure it's not overheating.

Can you wantch movies? If that bombs it too, you might look at vidcard cooling as an other possible problem.

I would be very carefull using a driver cleaner so early in the diagnostics. Go to www.nvidia.com and DL the latest certified driver. Uninstall the old driver and then install the new one.

Also check cooling.

Did you try running memtest to see if the RAM was bad and also do you have sufficient cooling as well?
