I'd chose the venice because it has more cache, an extra DDR channel and gains more from overclocking than a socket 754 neutered a64 (aka sempron). Eventhough the sempron has a higher clock, the memory channel and the cache are better on most applications.

That sempron is probably the worst one to chose, by the way, since it's priced the same as a64s. The only Sempron I'd buy is the 2800+ (and OC it to 2.4GHz if possible) to use on a 60ish dollar mobo for an under $400 system or something.

Well, those Sempron's 64 bits are knows to overclock a lot, also the Sempron uses a 10 multiplier, so when you have 300 HTT you have the Sempron at 3GHz, while the Venice would be at 2,7 ghz. Also, we could replace the Sempron 3400+ with a 3100+ and that would mean a 30-40 USD less price.

One thing I would like to know, do anybody know abou this new board MSI K8N Neo2-F ??? there is the Platinum that is know to be the best 939 / AGP board, but it cost around 50 USD more, so there is this new Neo2-F, but nobody knows about this board, so Im afraid it could be just like the NF7S-2G that is a stupid board that abit made just because people knew that NF7-S was a great board.

well for one thing i think getting the 3400+ sempron 64 is a waste because it cost almost the same as a 3000+ venice. But getting a 2800+ sempron HELL that is half the cost even though it only runs at 1.6GHz, i can see the sempron 64 2800+ as one sweet cheapo fileserver or something.

And as mentioned before sempron 64s can overclock well. It also depends on what you are using the computer for. I am currently waiting for a Sempron 64 2800 to come in for my cheapo fileserver i am putting up. Now if you are a gamer you might as well go for the A64 venice.

Just check out the 2800+ marked at 76 bucks as of today on newegg. I mean 64 bit processing for that cheap is pretty sweet but the lack of the second ddr channel does hurt.

Just go for the Venice. More head room for OCing and since you LOVE fast PCs then you probably wont LOVE the sempron line LOL.

Even owning a SEMPRON chip w/ a socket 754 mobo. I had to agree that the socket 939 w/ the dual channel mobo is the best step to take. I don't care about mines, It rocks my pants off !

If you get the 939 system, you can upgrade later to a dual core CPU without having to buy a new mobo as well (and probably graphics card since you might want to go PCIe next time you upgrade your mobo), so the 939 system will offer you more future options, especially if you plan on doing more video work.

I've never heard of it before, but apparently theese people own it and like it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and MUST you get an AGP motherboard? this would do very nicely for you.

At the same price level I will go with the Venice combo. By the way, the new stepping E6 Semprons with 64bit overclock at least as well as Venices does and also run cooler. If you go for the Sempy choose one with 256Kb of cache (I gess 2800/3100 ones and then overclock them).

As MSI mobos some told me only go for the Platinum ones... don't know why. I guess by the time being (and looking around the forum) you must stay out of Asus ones.

If you go with Venice combo you'll get Athlon X2 upgrade path for free...

In case you didn't hear the 100 people before me. Go with the Venice. It will overclock better, perform better, allow you to do future upgrades to other mob with PCI-E. Plus, it's at the same price point.

The neo-2 F is a solid board. MSI has their own forums you can visit. (Do a search on google). The forums are very helpful.

the venice is definitely better in this case. if you were going hardcore budget buy like i am, then the sempron would make a good choice (sempron64 2800+ and eVGA nforce3 mobo = $125)

E3 revision of the Venice core is generally thought to be a better over clocker thant the E6 as i recall.
