Computer will not power on for the life of me

I'm having a really hard time getting a new build to power on.

Here are the specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H AMD785G ATX AM3 DDR2

CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Dual Core Processor Socket AM3 3.1GHZ

Ram: OCZ Gold XTC OCZ2G10664GK 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-1066

PSU: PC Power & Cooling S47X Silencer 470 ATX2.2 470W 12V

Hard Drive: Western Digital 250gb SATA2

I RMA'd the motherboad because at first I tried everything, different power supplies, 3 of them, an AMD 720 CPU, tried with only one stick of ram, all in different slots. I just received the new motherboard and the same thing happens...nothing, no power, no post, no nothing.

I even tried another case to make sure the power button wasn't faulty on the original case.

No luck whatsoever.

Can anyone give me some ideas what to try.

Thanks a lot.

nvm. my guess is the power switch may be hooked up incorrectly on the board. try reversing the power switch header, you may have your +/- mixed up.

is there a soldered power button you can press?

I've tried that too, and I've tried the psu on two other computers and it powers them up.

I'm not sure what else is left to check.

Take it down to just 1 DIMM of RAM and try it that way. Them swap them and try again. May be bad RAM.

I'll try that, but I'm pretty sure I did that with both sticks.

Could it be possible that both are bad?

I would find it terribly bad luck to get both sticks bad. Have you tried popping out the CMOS battery for a minute and popping it back in? I can't imagine this working on a brand new system, but it's another option. The motherboard isn't powering up at all, right? I just don't think it's the RAM.

If you get no power, no fans, no LEDs, no nothing, then it's not the RAM. it's either the board or power supply, yet you have verified the power supply works on other boards. so it's the board.

The power switch is not polarity sensitive, so reversing it does nothing.

Have you checked the cmos reset jumper to make sure it is in the correct position? (And I have never seen the point of removing the battery to reset the cmos, as moving the jumper cuts the battery out of the circuit.)

Try testing the basic components on the bench (out of the case). MB, cpu, hsf, vid card, 1 stick ram, psu. Start it by momentarily shorting the power switch pins with a pocket screwdriver.

You've probably already checked this, but are you sure you have the power switch connected to the right pins on the motherboard?

i wasn't aware that +/- made a difference on a power button which requires only a complete circuit to power on the system.

Correct.

Honestly, I would just pop out the motherboard and see if it turns on out of the case. Start the machine either by shorting the two pins or plugging in the power button. It's conceivable that your case is shorting out the motherboard.

I once accidentally left a steel molex power adapter tool between my motherboard and case like a dumbass which shorted out the board and caused me to buy a new psu. lol

Ding. Ding. Ding.

From Pg 24 of the manual: If you are not using an EPS (2x4-pin) power supply (i.e., not a 2x2-pin like yours) DO NOT connect the full 2x12 main power connector ---- only use the 2x10 plugs.

I read my manual
(but it is the DDR2 MA785GM - US2H)

( okay .... quickly 'skimmed' --- LOL )
