Computer wont boot after video card switch

Hey guys
I have a box that has been working great since 2009 and went to upgrade the video card. I put in the new card and hooked up the power wrong using two six pin to six pin connectors instead of the 8 to 6. Needless to say the machine would not power up without enough voltage to the card. I pulled the card and put the old one back in. Now it will power up just fine and the mono has a green light but no beeps and no output just black screen. Did I fry this board being a noob? Any other possibility? Is there any way to test a mobo? Thanks for the help.

You're probably ok. Try pulling the input power from the power supply and let it sit for a few minutes. Then clear the CMOS and install the old card.

Thanks for the reply Ch, no dice on the power and cmos clear. Still powers up fine but blank screen.

Hook a speaker up to the motherboard if you don't already have one. And disconnect all disk drives, fans (except the cpu fan), etc...anything not required for POST to complete.

Pull the vga and see if you get POST errors. Series of beeps. If not, pull the RAM and listen for errors again. Try clearing CMOS again if you need to.

If you get errors, that's a good thing. It means the motherboard is functioning at least. If these steps don't work, do you have a spare power supply to test with?

Pulled all the fans and drives, same. Pulled the ram and with this board (Asus p7p55lx) has a 'mem ok' button to check the memory which should have beeped, stiil nothing. I switched out the psu, same result. I have had this setup for almost 4 years guess its time for an upgrade. Can't imagine what else it could be. Thanks again for your input Ch.

Good idea but the mobo has no onboard video, or at least none that I am familiar with, i.e. No vga.

If you are getting no beeps, no sound, no display, no hard drive lights and no boot up sound from hard drive after using a different psu....your mb has issues. Btw did you try a different monitor?

sorry just notice (Asus p7p55lx) no onboard. but what about the old card

Starfireone, I have not tried another monitor but the one I was using is a 2 day old dell, ill give it a shot though. denis280, I put the new video card away and have been using the old card. Only sign of life from the mobo is a green light on the board, no beeps, no display no hard drive lights. It seems as though all other variables have been eliminated. I am placing the newegg order today. Thanks much to all, your time and input is appreciated. Ill send the board off to Asus and see post what they say.
