I just received a replacement mobo from MSI for my 655-Max; the one I received now has HT. The reason I sent it in for an RMA was because the DIMM 1 slot would not read any memory.

When I hooked up my replacement mobo, it booted up, then went to "CMOS battery low". I picked the option to restore standard settings and Windows loaded. For some odd reason, my VGA drivers weren't loading up any more and the "found new hardware" message came up. I restarted my computer, but nothing comes up at all now. Occassionally, it will boot up, but windows will not load. I tried clearing the CMOS, but that hasn't worked. The majority of the time, the computer will not boot (I don't hear the beep anymore). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try a clean install of the OS and install a new battery.

All MOBO's are not created equal even if they are the same model

Also remove the motherboard from the case and try it while it's laying on cardboard, to eliminate any possible causes of short-circuiting inside the case (reading into your past & present problems here). And what power supply do you have towing the boat here? Something in the 300W+ range from a quality manufacturer, I hope?

Thanks guys. I'll try using the motherboard while it's on cardboard first. If that doesn't work, I'll try a clean install of the OS and a new battery. Should any computer store carry a battery? I'm using a 400w Antec Power Supply.

Visit your local supermarket or anyplace that carries normal watch batteries. All the motherboards I've seen use a common, easy-to-find CR2032 that is typically $2 to $3.

Thanks mechBgon! I'll pick one up after work tomorrow. I tried powering up the mobo on cardboard, but that hasn't changed anything; it still doesn't boot. Hopefully, replacing the battery will do the trick.
