Computer won't boot - USB error message

Error message upon booting: "USB device over current status detected!! Computer will shut down in 15 seconds"

Core 2 E6750
2GB RAm

Story:
A couple weeks ago, I tripped over my USB chord that was plugged into the front port, the port itself broke.

I've been using the back and the 1 other front port and everything has been fine. Recently, whenever I would plug a USB device into the "working" front port, nothing would happen. I would look under device manager, and there would be a yellow exclamation mark under one of the "USB enhanced host controller". If I were to plug it in the back, nothing would happen, but the devices already plugged into the back (mouse etc) continued to work.

I would just do a restart and everything went back to normal.

Then, I tried the front port again (for some reason), and I saw some sparks flew. Everything seemed fine, except that the front wouldn't work as usual.

Started the computer, and now the error message above.

For now, I unplugged the front ports from my motherboard, so it boots. But it would be nice to get that other front port up and running, if anyone has a suggestion...but at least my computer works for now..

Sounds like there is a short on the front ports. Try contacting the case manufacture and see if you can get a replacement for it. otherwise buy yourself a nice bay device to give you a couple of new USB connections in the front.

Sorry didnt read that you disconnected the ports already ..disregard..sorry

Or at least to start see if the front panel header can be disconnected to prevent the shorting
